About The Position

Alberta's Ministry of Education and Childcare is seeking a Manager, Financial Reporting and Accountability to lead a team of professionals. This role is crucial for ensuring the financial integrity and reporting compliance of the Ministry, Department, and Alberta School Foundation Fund (ASFF). The position involves overseeing quarterly submissions to Treasury Board, preparing financial statements for senior executives and the annual report, and managing the day-to-day operations of the ASFF, including billing and collections. The Manager also serves as the primary contact for the Auditor General and collaborates with other senior managers on complex financial matters. This role is essential for fulfilling the department's accountability responsibilities under key financial legislation.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, is required supplemented by four years related experience.
  • A professional accounting designation (CPA or legacy designations CA, CMA, CGA) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Present yearly and quarterly financial statements to the executive staff including the Assistant Deputy Minister and Deputy Minister.
  • Provide direction, coordination and analysis to support the development and implementation of branch/department/government policies and strategies.
  • Supervise the preparation of the yearly annual report submission, the Ministry, Department and Alberta School Foundation Fund financial statements/information and annual audit.
  • Review and approve the monthly 1GX to AIMS (Alberta School Foundation Fund Information Management System) account reconciliations and bank reconciliations for the Alberta School Foundation Fund.
  • Provide direction and assistance when needed on how layouts and financial statements are to be updated and presented.
  • Work with School Boards and Municipalities directly to resolve issues and to introduce them to new system implementations, processes, changes, etc.
  • Brief presentations and financial information for senior and executive managers, external stakeholders, Treasury Board, etc. are prepared in a comprehensive and timely manner.
  • Review submissions and follow up with feedback, questions or clarification for staff throughout the department.
