From your PASSION to ours Lactalis U.S Yogurt, part of the Lactalis family of companies, is currently hiring an Manager, Environmental, Health, & Safety based in Brattleboro, VT. The Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) develops, implements, and oversees safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace in accordance with OSHA and other Federal, State, and local regulations. This role evaluates work environments, identifies hazards, and designs solutions to prevent injury, illness, environmental impact, and asset loss. Responsibilities include planning and enforcing safety and environmental programs, conducting inspections, managing risk and regulatory compliance, and supporting activities such as pollution control, wastewater treatment, site remediation, and loss prevention. The role promotes safety awareness, reduces risk exposure, and drives continuous improvement in safety performance across the organization. The position reports directly to the Plant Director. Requirements

  • An associate’s degree is required, a bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Majors in Occupational Safety and/or Environmental concentration is preferred.
  • 4+ years of safety or environmental experience is preferred.
  • An understanding of Local, State, and federal regulations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001 standards and regulations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and support site Environmental, Safety, Health, and Security programs, engaging all employees to understand and follow safety, environmental, and security policies.
  • Lead the development and application of risk assessment systems to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and reduce workplace hazards.
  • Plan, implement, and manage EHS training programs to meet regulatory requirements and build employee safety competencies.
  • Allocate and manage resources to effectively support and sustain site safety and environmental systems.
  • Establish, track, and analyze safety and environmental performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with site leadership and corporate teams to identify and address key EHS priorities and risks.
  • Lead incident and near-miss investigations, ensure root cause analysis, and drive timely corrective and preventive actions.
  • Create, audit, and maintain site programs supporting regulatory compliance, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), permitting, chemical storage, air quality, noise, wastewater discharge, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC), and occupancy requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Local, State, and Federal safety and environmental regulatory agencies and inspections.
  • Manage chemical and hazardous materials programs, including Process Safety Management and Ammonia Refrigeration Management, ensuring accurate Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on the workers’ compensation program, including injury reporting, insurance carrier communication, ergonomic assessments, and return-to-work and accommodation processes.
  • Lead environmental initiatives such as pollution control, wastewater treatment oversight, waste recycling, energy conservation, and environmental remediation activities.
