About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Manager, Economic Analysis and Transmission Strategy to support the clean energy transition in New England. This role provides analytical, economic, and strategic services crucial for transmission solutions and the growth of Eversource's electric transmission business. The position is primarily responsible for economic analyses of the clean energy transition, modeling the electricity sector, and ensuring the transmission grid meets organizational objectives. It also involves coordinating data, reports, presentations, and compliance filings for ISO New England, acting as a transmission engineering subject matter expert in various forums, and sharing accountability for strategic initiatives and economic analyses. The role includes supervising engineers and analysts, collaborating with internal stakeholders, and managing, coaching, developing, and reviewing staff performance. Researching and analyzing relevant policies and studies impacting the transmission business and modeling assumptions is also a key responsibility. The position supports other Eversource groups by providing data and simulation outputs, and offers subject matter expertise on transmission network and interconnection issues for state procurement evaluation teams. Additionally, it involves scrutinizing technical reports on the operational and economic impact of clean energy resources on electric transmission and distribution systems and may involve serving as an expert witness in state regulatory proceedings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Operations Management, Public Policy, Political Science, related degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Ten (10) to twelve (12) years of related experience in the electricity industry is required.
  • Experience with electric production cost modeling tools such as PLEXOS, Gridview, PROMOD, or any software with similar functionality and purpose
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software such as PSS/E, TARA, Powerworld, ASPEN Oneliner, etc.
  • Knowledge of major ongoing clean energy policy activities that impact Eversource’s transmission business such as Connecticut and Massachusetts state-mandated clean energy procurements, FERC interconnection and transmission planning reforms, etc.
  • Requires strong knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and industry trends in the energy sector and utility operations, including advances in technology and the resulting impact on the state and region.
  • Requires knowledge and experience with ISO/RTO processes and FERC open access transmission tariffs.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Must be available for occasional travel outside of the service area (i.e., Washington, DC)
  • All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for economic capacity expansion, production cost, and probabilistic modeling analyses of the New England system.
  • Oversees engineers and consultants who may be retained to perform technical analysis.
  • Responsible for development of analytical products, visualizations, research, and other advocacy materials to support policy recommendations and outreach.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and oversight of cross-functional analyses including engineering power flow, economic capacity expansion, production cost, and probabilistic modeling analyses of the New England system.
  • Oversees engineers, analysts and consultants who may be retained to perform technical analysis.
  • Support the Transmission Business Development and Strategic Planning & Policy teams on the identification and development of other business development opportunities.
  • Support bid development including drafting applications for local, regional, or national funding opportunities.
  • Regular cross-functional engagement with senior management.
  • Significant interaction with project partners and other third parties and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Manages, coaches, develops, and reviews performance of engineers, analysts and other staff.
  • Research and analyze relevant policies and studies that impact and influence the growth of Eversource’s transmission business and modeling assumptions.
  • Support other groups within Eversource by providing data, simulation outputs, or relevant knowledge from the transmission business.
  • Responsible for subject matter expertise to state procurement evaluation team on transmission network and interconnection-related issues.
  • Responsible for scrutiny of technical reports related to the operational and economic impact of clean energy resources on the electric transmission and distribution systems in New England.
  • May serve as an expert witness in state regulatory proceedings.
  • Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other engineers and analysts.
  • Responsible for working directly and collaboratively with various internal stakeholders to provide insights and ensure alignment on key issues affecting Eversource’s transmission business.
