About The Position

Accountable to provide oversight for the operational and administrative activities of the ECMO department. Responsible for day-to-day staffing and operations while maintaining fiscal accountability. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, monitoring, and improving the quality of services with the goal of optimal patient outcomes. Demonstrates clinical expertise for the provision of safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate care to patients of all ages. Plans, coordinates, and provides education to ECMO department and medical care providers. Works interdependently with and also independently of the team.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care or Nursing.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of ECMO experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner - MSDH - Mississippi Dept of Health or valid RN license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • If Respiratory Therapist, Certification for National Board of Respiratory Care (CRT) and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and tests.
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize and lead meetings, as well as effectively present to groups.
  • Skilled in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data, with a proven capacity to implement organizational change.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of the ECMO program to ensure high-quality, safe, and cost-effective patient care.
  • Manage daily operations, including staffing plans, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet patient volume and support program growth.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate ECMO specialists and respiratory care staff, including hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and competency validation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain ECMO policies, procedures, and clinical protocols in alignment with evidence-based and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor program performance using data analysis, dashboards, and key metrics; lead continuous quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manage the operational budget, including oversight of equipment, supplies, program costs, productivity, billing processes, payroll review, and audits.
  • Assess and support staff education and professional development; lead ECMO training and competency programs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, safety, and infection control standards while serving as a clinical resource during complex cases.
