About The Position

As a manager of disability benefits, you will supervise a section of personnel and activities to ensure timely, accurate, and thoroughly investigated disability decisions and ongoing management of claim liability, benefit payments, taxation of benefits, deductible income pursuit, and reserve data. You will supervise section personnel for claim decisions on new and continuing disability claims, customer service, management of policyholder accounts, and other customer needs. You will implement intervention and reporting strategies in response to sales, marketing, and client needs and claim trends. You will also promote effective working relationships with Group Sales and Marketing, Special Accounts, Underwriting, and other operating units to install, service, and retain existing accounts and contribute to the sale of new accounts.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in employee benefits with an emphasis on disability claim and leave administration and related product and service issues.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a related industry leadership role.
  • Experience managing projects, resources, processes that include automation on offshore resources.
  • Proven expertise in data and report management and presenting to groups, customers, and senior and executive leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of managed disability and claim management principles.
  • Quickly and resourcefully adapts to multiple changing work demands by adjusting team priorities to fit new circumstances.
  • Proactively provides ongoing constructive, behaviorally oriented feedback to others within the team to increase future performance.
  • Describes how team objectives and performance contribute to the department’s success to create a common purpose and intentions.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Science, Business or related field is highly preferred. Additional experience may substitute in lieu of degree.
