About The Position

Waga Energy is seeking a Manager/Director of Public Affairs & Government Relations for their Bala Cynwyd, PA Office (Philadelphia Area). This role reports to the President of Waga Energy Inc. and is responsible for developing and executing Waga Energy's public affairs strategy throughout the United States. The position serves as the primary liaison between Waga Energy and external stakeholders, including government agencies, elected officials, regulators, industry associations, utilities, community leaders, and advocacy organizations. The successful candidate will support project development, permitting, regulatory engagement, market expansion, and reputation management while helping shape policies that advance renewable natural gas and decarbonization initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, Environmental Policy, Communications, Law, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, regulatory affairs, public policy, or energy infrastructure development.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. federal, state, and local government processes.
  • Demonstrated success influencing public policy or regulatory outcomes.
  • Experience interacting with elected officials, regulators, government agencies, or industry associations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to represent the company with senior external stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory, policy, and business issues into clear recommendations for executive leadership.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25-40% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in renewable natural gas, biogas, renewable energy, waste management, natural gas utilities, infrastructure, or environmental services is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Waga Energy's primary representative with government agencies, elected officials, utilities, industry associations, local communities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute government relations, public affairs, and advocacy strategies that support the company's growth and project portfolio.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with federal, state, and local government stakeholders.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and market developments affecting the RNG, waste, energy, and environmental sectors.
  • Provide executive leadership with policy intelligence, strategic recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Represent Waga Energy within key industry organizations, including the American Biogas Council (ABC), RNG Coalition, SWANA, and the American Gas Association (AGA).
  • Lead advocacy and lobbying initiatives that support favorable regulatory, permitting, and market outcomes.
  • Support project development teams by defining stakeholder engagement, permitting, and public-sector approval strategies.
  • Develop approaches to facilitate permitting activities, utility interconnections, and infrastructure approvals while mitigating potential roadblocks.
  • Partner with Project Developers to build local support through community engagement and stakeholder outreach initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans that strengthen Waga Energy's reputation and support business objectives.
  • Anticipate reputational risks and lead stakeholder engagement and communication efforts during sensitive or high-profile situations.
