About The Position

ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Manager, Digital Teaching and Learning to join our team. Founded in 1930 and located in Pasadena, California, ArtCenter College of Design is a global leader in art and design education and has had an international reputation for its rigorous, transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strong ties to industry, and commitment to socially responsible design. ArtCenter is a private nonprofit fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Reporting to the director, Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning and associate dean of faculty, the manager, Digital Teaching and Learning, serves as the primary administrator of the College’s learning management system (LMS) and related digital learning platforms. The Manager oversees vendor relationships and serves as the central point of coordination between external providers and internal stakeholders, including IT and academic partners. The incumbent supports faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of the LMS and the integration of institutionally supported digital teaching and learning technologies. This includes developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation, web resources, and training materials to support tools, processes, and platforms across Digital Teaching and Learning (DTL), the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL), and the Dean of Faculty’s office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information technology or related field from an accredited college or university or any equivalent combination of training, certificates, and experience.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including ability to prepare professional written materials; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely; demonstrated ability to present information to individuals or groups
  • At least 3 years of experience as an LMS administrator in higher education or a similar environment
  • Experience with troubleshooting basic educational technology issues.
  • Familiarity with ERPs such as Ellucian Colleague and higher education scheduling software
  • Experience with Canvas LMS administration
  • Experience coaching or training peers, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of Turnitin and plagiarism detection software
  • Familiarity with collaborative whiteboarding software such as Miro, Mural, or other similar platforms
  • Understanding of syllabus creation and relationship between learning outcomes, projects and assignments, and methods of grading and evaluation
  • Experience with online or remote education
  • Demonstrated experience supporting faculty with digital teaching tools and instructional technologies
  • Basic understanding of HTML and other code languages
  • Ability to handle all information with tact and discretion and recognize the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
  • Ability to enforce and implement policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment into workplace practices within ArtCenter's diverse communities

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate or degree in instructional design
  • Experience with graphic design, multimedia applications, authoring tools, and web conferencing for instructional purposes to be able to coach others to use most appropriately.
  • Teaching experience in higher education, particularly in art and design disciplines

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage LMS and Digital Teaching and Learning (DTL) vendor contracts and consultants
  • Serve as primary administrator for the College’s LMS and associated platforms (e.g., Canvas, Turnitin, LinkedIn Learning, Credly, e-portfolio tools)
  • Collaborate with IT around technology projects; troubleshoot general educational technology issues identified in the Help Desk ticketing system
  • Assist with facilitating department processes for academic software
  • Evaluate and guide the implementation of new Institutional tools
  • Maintain a record of LMS and DTL internal protocols, set-up steps for the term, and documentation for DTL support with Application Services
  • Work with IT to set up LMS and create courses at start of each term and respond to LMS, DTL and other College supported software-related helpdesk tickets via the notification system (HALO)
  • Monitor system performance, usage, and adoption; generate reports and insights for leadership
  • Participate in the development of ideas for new plugins, products, or features by monitoring other online courses and industry developments and trends
  • Documenting updates and changes to the DTL, CITL, and Dean of Faculty tools, processes and platforms.
  • Develop and deliver live demos and training materials for faculty, staff, and students on best practices within the suite of DTL, CITL, and Dean of Faculty tools, processes and platforms
  • Manage and maintain the online resources for the DTL, CITL, and Dean of Faculty tools, processes and platforms, including creating demonstration videos and instructional PDFs
  • Develop training materials and provide technical support for IRB related software, including but not limited to CITI and Cayuse
  • Provide live demos and 1:1 support on LMS course site use and technical areas
  • Assist faculty with course design, LMS usage, digital accessibility, and student engagement strategies
  • Partner with offices across the College to implement resources that support digital teaching and learning. Serve as subject matter expert for digital teaching and learning software systems and provide guidance for new innovations and instructor and student experiences that support the College's mission
  • Participate in New Faculty Orientation, including providing 1 :1 support
  • In partnership with Heavin Media team, help faculty leverage multimedia elements by creating and embedding simulations and video demonstrations into their web-enhanced courses
  • Help faculty with digital accessibility for course sites and content creation/ uploading
  • Take a lead role in identifying, evaluating, and implementing emerging learning technologies and platforms
  • Provide operational support and management for the CITL office under the direction of the Director, Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) and Associate Dean of Faculty
  • Provide support and guidance in a clear and professional manner for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Draft complex and detailed correspondence using ArtCenter knowledge and advanced business acumen
  • Serve on college-wide committees, task forces and work groups as needed
  • Maintain memberships and active involvement in applicable professional organizations
  • Enforce and follow ArtCenter policies, including safety protocols and implement policies as needed for the role
