About The Position

Pratt & Whitney's Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) organization is responsible for the engineering activities for the Fan/Low Pressure Compressor and High Pressure Compressor modules across all of P&W's military and commercial products. CSE is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated Design Engineering Manager that serves as the direct line supervisor for a team of design engineers. The Design Engineering Manager provides oversight to a group of design engineers, handles task assignments, employee performance and results for the group. Is responsible for the design of CSE hardware through preliminary & detailed design, validation, certification, and support of manufacturing and operational service. Compression Systems Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and in service support of all fans low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 8 years of design engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree in Engineering with 5 years of design engineering experience.
  • Experience with CAD solid modeling (UG NX) and other modeling and analysis tools.
  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead the design engineering team to meet program demands.
  • Sets priorities, allocates resources, review and approve design documentation and supervises staff to meet safety standards, quality requirements and schedule needs.
  • Ensure support for multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.
  • Actively identify and manage risks and resolve technical problems.
  • Coach, train and develop the technical capabilities of design engineers.
  • Responsible for the recruiting, retention and performance management of design engineers.
  • Develop the required functional expertise of the team to ensure overall team capability meets current and future business needs.
  • Regularly evaluate staffing / resource metrics with business managers, discipline directors and CIPT Leadership, and ensure adequate resource plans are in place.
