About The Position

The Manager, Data Science leads a team responsible for a portfolio of diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects, supporting data-driven business decisions, including in conversational AI projects. The role supports the ongoing development and strategy of Vanguard’s data science capabilities and applies advanced data science techniques to identify trends in large datasets and inform strategic decisions across business areas such as marketing, supply chain, and economic research. The position develops and refines data mining architectures, analytical protocols, and statistical reporting methods; evaluates emerging analytics methodologies; and guides research, testing, and model validation. It works with internal stakeholders to turn business needs into analytic approaches, communicates findings and recommendations to business leaders, and contributes analytics expertise to cross-functional strategic initiatives. The manager also executes operational plans, collaborates with department or functional heads on near-term goals, and hires, evaluates, supervises, trains, and develops team members. Vanguard offers visa sponsorship for this position. The role follows the company’s hybrid working model for the majority of crew members.

Requirements

At least five years of related work experience in data science roles.
Expertise in natural language processing (NLP), generative solutions, and agentic solutions.
Deep understanding of transformer architectures and experience improving agent performance.
Programming skills to access, transform, and prepare large-scale data for machine learning modeling.
Experience using statistical and machine learning methods.
Experience creating explainable machine learning solutions and attribution methodologies.
Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

Oversee and participate in diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics for conversational AI projects and other business decision-making needs.
Create alternative modeling approaches to assess complex model design and advance future capabilities.
Manage a team delivering a portfolio of analytics projects and support the evolution and strategy of Vanguard’s data science capabilities.
Identify and diagnose data inconsistencies and errors, document data assumptions, and investigate ways to fill data gaps.
Engage internal stakeholders to understand business processes, develop hypotheses, structure requests, and translate requirements into analytic approaches.
Guide test design, research design, and model validation; provide statistical consultation.
Serve as the analytics expert on cross-functional strategic initiatives and contribute to the Vanguard analytics community.
Execute operational plans and collaborate with department or functional heads to plan, develop, and carry out near-term goals.
Prepare, review, and deliver insight presentations and action recommendations; communicate analytical findings and implications to business leaders.
Design and refine data mining architectures, analytical protocols, and statistical reporting methods to identify actionable trends in large datasets.
Apply data science principles and emerging technologies to develop models that inform strategic decisions across functions such as marketing, supply chain, and economic forecasting.
Research cutting-edge analytics methodologies to enhance organizational capabilities and maintain competitive advantage.
Hire, evaluate, supervise, guide, and train team members; set performance standards, review performance, and make compensation decisions in accordance with applicable HR policies and procedures.
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
