About The Position

Bain Capital Credit & Special Situations are independently managed affiliates of Bain Capital, with a collective $55 billion in assets under management. We invest across the full spectrum of credit strategies, including leveraged loans, high-yield bonds, distressed debt, direct lending, structured products, non-performing loans, and equities. Bain Capital Credit has a world-class team of investment professionals with extensive experience analyzing and managing high-yield investments. The successful candidate will join Bain Capital’s Central Data Governance Team as a Manager and report to the Credit & Special Situations Data Governance Team Lead. This role will be responsible for the design, implementation, adoption, and maintenance of a spectrum of data governance capabilities and solutions. These capabilities include but are not limited to data process redesign/modernization projects, data issue management, data quality management, data catalog management, data health KPI’s and metrics reporting, and visualization tool and AI-enablement. This role will work very closely with a variety of functions such as Investment and Trade Operations, Finance, Data Analytics & Reporting, Portfolio Management, Investor Relations and Information Technology. Requirements

  • Proven experience collaborating effectively with multiple stakeholders/internal customers
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills across several key functions
  • Strong process discipline – ability to design new processes and improve existing ones
  • Self-starter with a deadline-driven mindset
  • A strong understanding of multiple asset classes – it is a plus to specifically have experience with fixed income, private equity, private credit, liquid credit and distressed assets
  • Comfort with a data-intensive and demanding environment
  • Experience in Finance, Operations or standing up or maintaining a data governance program at a similar firm
  • 10+ years of experience in asset management or closely related field

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and drive efficiency around end-to-end workflows
  • Map out processes from data collection to end-user reporting with enhanced quality controls
  • Prioritize and oversee key IT projects that impact data and reporting, as well as drive effective project planning and execution
  • Partner with key business stakeholders to design systems architecture and implement data strategies across systems landscape, including deal pipeline, accounting system, portfolio company monitoring system, valuation and revenue models, as well as data warehouse completeness and end user reporting consumption
  • Ensure appropriate data architecture, completeness, quality and transparency to enable automated reporting using visualization reporting tools (e.g. Power BI) and approved AI reporting tools
  • Be a change agent in reducing manual processes and developing consistent approaches to where mappings, calculations and data aggregations should be stored in the systems
  • Partner with key business stakeholders and use traditional SQL or machine learning to build reasonability tests and create alerts via a central data quality framework (e.g. Monte Carlo)
  • Document key data terms, processes and protocols to create transparency and foster appropriate data use and process efficiency and governance via a central data catalog framework (e.g. Atlan)
  • Act as a Data Management Office that identifies data and reporting challenges, track and root cause data issues, and design proper remediation controls, actions and process redesigns to avoid future occurrences
  • Serves as a sounding board for key stakeholders across functions
  • Develop and track progress of data and reporting health KPI’s / metrics
  • Build scalable data and process solutions that integrate with both business-specific and firmwide reporting needs
