The Manager, Credentialing is responsible for leading, developing, and continuously advancing the organization’s credentialing function. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to a team responsible for partnering with clinicians, hospitals, facilities, operations leaders, payor enrollment, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure clinicians are credentialed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable requirements. This role is accountable for building a high-performing, scalable, and highly reliable credentialing operation. This includes establishing and deploying credentialing standards, protocols, workflows, best practices, quality controls, performance metrics, and technology-enabled processes that improve efficiency, consistency, visibility, and clinician experience. As the organizational subject matter expert for credentialing operations, the Credentialing Manager sets the standard for credentialing excellence across the company. The Manager proactively identifies opportunities to improve processes, reduce credentialing timelines, eliminate unnecessary manual work, strengthen accountability, and ensure the credentialing team is positioned to support organizational growth and new business.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required
3-5 Years of Credentialing Management required
Experience with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Teams
Experience with credentialing software and Salesforce required
Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and continuously improve high-performing operational teams.
Strong knowledge of healthcare credentialing, privileging, recredentialing, licensing, certification, and medical staff processes.
Ability to translate complex requirements into standardized, practical, and scalable workflows.
Strong process-improvement mindset with demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies, determine root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
Ability to establish meaningful performance metrics and use data to drive accountability and operational decisions.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, develop, and hold accountable a high-performing team of credentialing professionals.
Establish clear expectations, roles, responsibilities, productivity standards, quality expectations, and performance goals for the credentialing team.
Build team capabilities through structured onboarding, training, coaching, cross-training, and ongoing professional development.
Assess team capacity, workload, performance, and organizational needs and recommend appropriate staffing and resource strategies.
Create an environment of ownership, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.
Identify performance gaps and implement appropriate coaching, development plans, or corrective actions.
Develop team members and emerging leaders to strengthen succession planning and support continued organizational growth.
Own and continuously improve the organization's credentialing operating model, including policies, protocols, standard operating procedures, workflows, tools, templates, and documentation standards.
Establish consistent credentialing practices across hospitals, facilities, service lines, and geographic markets while accommodating client-specific requirements.
Develop and deploy credentialing best practices designed to improve turnaround times, accuracy, efficiency, and stakeholder experience.
Ensure credentialing requirements, processes, and expectations are clearly documented, communicated, and consistently executed.
Maintain current knowledge of credentialing, recredentialing, privileging, licensing, certification, and related requirements affecting clinicians and client organizations.
Translate regulatory, client, and operational requirements into clear and actionable processes for the credentialing team.
Ensure the credentialing function is prepared to effectively support new hospital implementations, organizational growth, and changing business needs.
Establish and manage meaningful credentialing KPIs, service standards, and performance expectations, including turnaround time, application completion, quality, productivity, aging, and other key operational measures.
Develop dashboards, reporting mechanisms, and management routines that provide visibility into team performance, clinician status, bottlenecks, risks, and credentialing timelines.
Establish and oversee a comprehensive quality assurance and audit program to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance, and adherence to established credentialing standards.
Analyze credentialing data and trends to identify root causes, recurring barriers, process inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
Design and implement solutions that reduce unnecessary manual work, improve scalability, and create more predictable credentialing outcomes.
Continuously evaluate workflows, technology, automation opportunities, and industry best practices to modernize and strengthen the credentialing function.
Establish mechanisms for measuring the effectiveness of process improvements and ensuring changes are successfully adopted by the team.
Build strong, collaborative relationships with clinicians, hospital medical staff offices, operations leaders, recruiting, payor enrollment, and other internal and external stakeholders.
Establish clear communication and escalation protocols to ensure credentialing barriers and risks are identified and addressed proactively.
Serve as the senior operational escalation point for complex credentialing matters and provide sound judgment and direction toward resolution.
Provide leadership with timely visibility into credentialing performance, significant barriers, risks, resource needs, and opportunities for improvement.
Partner cross-functionally to ensure credentialing processes support clinician onboarding, hospital implementations, operational readiness, and organizational growth.
Champion a credentialing experience that is organized, responsive, professional, and clinician focused.
Ensure credentialing systems and data are accurate, complete, standardized, and effectively utilized by the team.
Partner with internal stakeholders and technology vendors to optimize credentialing platforms, integrations, automation, reporting, and workflows.
Establish standards for data integrity, documentation, status tracking, and system utilization.
Identify opportunities to leverage technology and automation to reduce administrative burden and increase team capacity.
Design credentialing processes and infrastructure that can scale effectively as clinician volume, client relationships, service lines, and geographic markets grow.
Provide hands-on operational support during critical business needs, significant implementations, or unusual volume while maintaining primary accountability for leadership and oversight of the credentialing function.
Lead or participate in cross-functional initiatives related to clinician onboarding, credentialing, technology, compliance, and operational improvement.
