About The Position

Leads and manages a team of exempt and nonexempt individuals responsible for the accounting of the overall Western & Southern Financial Group (W&SFG), life insurance subsidiaries (both statutory and GAAP) and certain non-life insurance subsidiaries. Coordinates the execution and delivery of the monthly GAAP consolidation results. Owns, executes and manages all organizational efforts related to expense budget, cost allocations and expense analysis. Actively communicating with senior leadership related to results and the projected impact of business activities on operating expenses. Leads and monitors organizations regulatory processes related to intercompany agreement transactions. Partners with Compliance Department and business unit stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance. Utilizes management skills to motivate and direct professional personnel who perform core accounting and reporting functions. Ensure the completeness and accuracy of the organization's financial results. Coordinates and implements best practices for efficiently completing budget and expense deliverables, including leveraging technology to create transparency, improve workflow and maintain accuracy. Empowered to work independently and make a wide-range of decisions, escalating to more senior management when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree In accounting. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing large projects to completion. - Required
  • Proven experience supervising (directly or indirectly) and mentoring individuals. Must cite examples of providing direction, coaching and giving effective feedback to team members. - Required
  • Proven experience handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Required
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge, understanding and experience interpreting and applying statutory and GAAP accounting principles. Cite examples of application of accounting principles to business situations.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial statements and apply a broad business perspective in summarizing results.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience communicating to and influencing opinion in large and small groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt communication styles and effectively communicate technical information to associates at various levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business processes in the financial services or similar industry.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, emphasizing the need to deliver quality products and/or services.
  • Proven integrity and maturity in handling confidential information.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) With current CPE requirements met or commensurate experience. Upon Hire - Required

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and approves complex expense allocation calculations and asset management journal entries. Leverages organizational knowledge and business expertise to to maintain complete and accurate financial statements both at the consolidated W&SFG level, individual life insurance entities and non-life asset management entities for both statutory and GAAP reporting.
  • Leads the coordination and execution of the annual expense budget creation and subsequent monthly cost allocation processes for W&SFG. Educates stakeholders on the allocation processes and impact of time-study decisions.
  • Leads discussion and analysis related to key financial and expense metrics and critical measures with management and senior officers. Deliverables include analysis related to expense variance and projections, Exeuctive Scorecard reporting, and monthly business unit financial reporting results.
  • Actively communicates with business unit leadership regarding changes in the business and the impact on the related finanicial results, including: budget changes, company streamline activites and business development changes. Effectively esclates to finance leadership when necessay.
  • Owns the coordination, monitoring and execution of the Enterprise intercompany expense allocation and chargeback processes, including the intercompany settlements, partnering with Compliance of risks and new agreements, and regulatory reporting.
  • Identifies, designs and leads implementation of process enhancements to improve efficiency and create stakeholder value related to financial analysis, internal and external reporting, and budget and cost allocations.
  • Stays current on statutory and GAAP accounting guidance and other rules affecting the financial statements. Informs senior management of pending guidance changes and how those changes will impact the financial statements.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and develops staff. Provides direction to and development of associates through daily coaching, the administration of the Performance Management Program, and the creation and implementation of development plans. Develops challenging goals for associates and that align with the Enterprise's and department's missions.
  • Stays current on trends in the insurance and asset management industry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
