About The Position

The Construction Manager at XPO will oversee scheduling of work in line with company goals, objectives and values across company locations. This role involves communicating and managing all issues and risks affecting projects, and communicating project status to project participants and internal departments accurately and on time. The manager will develop and implement solutions to correct any deviation and or conflict, and lead and manage a large team of second-party professional A/E consultants to ensure effective project delivery. Responsibilities include developing estimates and managing budgets for construction-related projects during the pre-construction phase, managing the site’s Due Diligence process to ensure that all development risks are identified and quantified, and managing the approval and permitting phase of the pre-construction process. The role also requires maintaining positive relationships with jurisdictions and planning commissions, managing the detailed design phase of the projects, and overseeing the bidding, negotiation and construction contract process. Additionally, the Construction Manager will monitor general contractor and vendor performance during the construction phase, manage project submittments, RFI’s and pay applications, and ensure effective project handover to the company operations group with completed documentation. The role involves ensuring projected capital expenditure is under constant review, that construction projects align with environmental health & safety laws and company standards, and using data to improve decision-making and cost-effectiveness. The Construction Manager will also provide customer service and act as a technical resource for service center leaders, manage the contractor network, and conduct performance reviews. The ability to independently multi-task and prioritize efficiently is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • 5 years of experience leading construction projects
  • Familiarity with building systems
  • Able to perform semi-complex mathematical operations

  • Ensure that the projects are effectively handed over to the company operations group from the contractor with completed documentation and close-out documents
  • Ensure that the projected capital expenditure is under constant review and that any anticipated deviations are highlighted and controlled
  • Ensure that construction projects are in line with current environmental health & safety laws and internal company standards
  • Use data to help improve decision-making and work to become more cost-effective
  • Provide the highest level of customer service and be a technical resource for service center leaders
  • Manage the contractor network for your assigned projects. Conduct quarterly performance reviews with contractors/ vendors and look to constantly improve on service levels
  • Must be able to independently multi-task and prioritize efficiently
