About The Position

The Clinical & Quality Manager for EMS at Emory Healthcare is responsible for overseeing the clinical and quality assurance aspects of emergency medical services. This role ensures that all EMS operations meet or exceed regulatory, accreditation, clinical, and organizational standards. The manager will work closely with EMS staff, clinical teams, and leadership to develop, implement, and monitor quality improvement initiatives, clinical protocols, and training programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services, healthcare administration, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • Current certification as a national registry paramedic and / or licensed Georgia paramedic.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency medical services, preferably with at least 2 years in an education, leadership, or quality management role.
  • Formal training and proven experience in clinical quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of EMS clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of clinical and operational staff.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Image Trend)
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • May require occasional lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Quality Improvement (e.g., CPHQ) or related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards (e.g., Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), and/or Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS)).
  • Conduct regular audits of EMS operations, patient care records, and clinical practices to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that all EMS personnel adhere to clinical protocols, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Clinical Oversight: Collaborate with EMS medical directors and clinical leadership to develop and update clinical protocols, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Provide clinical expertise and support to EMS teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in pre-hospital and emergency settings.
  • Monitor and analyze clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Training & Education: Design and oversee ongoing training programs for EMS staff, including EMTs, paramedics, and other personnel.
  • Ensure that all EMS personnel maintain required certifications and participate in continuing education.
  • Facilitate simulation-based training, skills labs, and other educational activities to enhance clinical competency.
  • Performance Improvement: Lead root cause analysis and performance improvement initiatives in response to clinical incidents, near misses, or adverse events.
  • Develop and implement action plans to address identified gaps in clinical care or operational processes.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with EMS leadership colleagues, clinical teams, and external stakeholders to align EMS operations with organizational goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between EMS and other clinical departments, including emergency medicine, and public safety.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence within the EMS team.
