About The Position

This position entails 24-hour accountability to the department. The Manager Clinical - Emergency Department is responsible for the maintenance of efficient and effective departmental operations, including ensuring work schedules are planned, implemented, and monitored; ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and equipment; maintaining and monitoring emergency equipment and supplies per protocol; coordinating information systems for accurate data entry; monitoring and assessing department safety procedures; facilitating coordination of department services; identifying and meeting customer needs; monitoring utilization of resources and budgetary issues; and coordinating the selection process, monitoring staff developmental needs, conducting performance reviews, coaching, counseling, and disseminating information. The role also involves collaboration with the Clinical Specialist in developing and implementing educational activities, identifying and addressing education needs, and providing or arranging training. Additionally, the position is responsible for monitoring and implementing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, developing corrective action plans, participating in CQI teams, promoting staff involvement in CQI, identifying CQI project opportunities, and collecting and maintaining data. The Manager ensures compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and standards of care, assists in developing methods for improvement, develops and implements department-specific checklists and skills competencies, and reviews/revises policies and procedures with the Clinical Director and Clinical Nurse Specialist. The role also facilitates and monitors department QA activities. Maintenance of personal professional growth and development is key, including developing educational goals, attending professional activities, and serving on committees. All job duties are performed under the strictest Patient Satisfaction standards, including designing and implementing patient satisfaction education programs, monitoring customer service standards, developing and implementing patient satisfaction policies, and coaching staff on customer service issues.

Requirements

  • Nurse, Registered (RN)
  • Bachelor’s degree or enrolled and progressing
  • 5 years lead or supervisory experience
  • 7-10 years clinical experience
  • Appropriate clinical skills
  • Good Communication skills
  • Strong human relations skills
  • Current RN licensure in State of Illinois
  • CPR Certified
  • ACLS Certified

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the work schedule is planned, implemented, and monitored according to department policy.
  • Ensures the availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures that all emergency equipment and supplies are maintained and monitored per protocol and are utilized appropriately to meet all standards of care.
  • Coordinates the use of all information systems to ensure that data entry of patient information and charges is accurate.
  • Monitors and assesses department safety procedures to ensure patient, visitor, and staff safety.
  • Facilitates and ensures smooth coordination of department services with other departments.
  • Identifies internal and external customer needs and ensures provision of services to meet those needs.
  • Monitors and assures efficient utilization of human resources, supplies and equipment and other budgetary issues.
  • Coordination of selection process. Responsible for monitoring and assessing staff developmental needs to ensure competence including conducting timely performance reviews, coaching and counseling, staff meetings and dissemination of information.
  • Identifies individual/departmental education needs.
  • Provides training and/or arranges opportunities to address education needs.
  • Develops and implements plans for corrective measures in conjunction with the Clinical Specialist.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary CQI teams.
  • Actively promotes and involves staff in the CQI process.
  • Identifies CQI project opportunities.
  • Collects, reports, and maintains appropriate data.
  • Assists in developing methods for improvement of care as necessary.
  • Assists in developing and implementing department specific checklists and skills competencies.
  • Reviews and revises policies, procedures, and protocols for the department in conjunction with Clinical Director and Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Facilitates and monitors department QA activities by observation, report, and written documentation to ensure quality of care.
  • Develops goals for educational development with input from Clinical Director.
  • Attends workshops, seminars, and professional organization activities.
  • Serves as an active member on appropriate committees.
  • Designs and implements “Patient Satisfaction” Education programs to include various customer service techniques geared towards a variety of ways in staff interface with customers (i.e. person, telephone, etc.)
  • Designs and monitors customer service standards via performance monitoring plans, performance indicators review of customer complaints and any other method in which the customers notify the department of their needs
  • Develops and implements “Patient Satisfaction” standards policies and procedures and assures that policies and procedures are updated as new techniques or services are implemented.
  • Coaches, counsels and provides; direction to registration staff regarding customer service issues and assures that appropriate feedback is given to department director and supervisor, as well as other registration staff management personnel
