About The Position

Greenbrook Medical is seeking a Manager, Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) to lead the team responsible for ensuring clinical documentation is accurate, complete, compliant, and defensible. This hands-on leadership role requires deep knowledge of risk adjustment and HCC coding, with a focus on developing people, solving problems, and building better systems. The Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the CDI team, including prospective and concurrent chart review, team performance, quality, onboarding, coaching, workflow management, and continuous improvement. They will also play a key role in helping Greenbrook's physicians and clinical teams accurately capture the full clinical picture of seniors served, ensuring chronic conditions are appropriately documented and coded according to CMS-HCC requirements. The role reports to the Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity and collaborates with various internal teams to ensure a smooth provider documentation ecosystem. Success in this role means the CDI team consistently meets or exceeds goals, work is managed proactively, new specialists onboard quickly, coding accuracy remains strong, and the CDI operation becomes increasingly scalable and efficient.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in clinical documentation integrity, risk adjustment, or HCC coding, including experience supporting Medicare Advantage populations.
  • Experience leading, coaching, or supervising others and holding a team accountable to clear performance standards.
  • Deep knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CMS-HCC risk-adjustment methodology, including V24 and V28.
  • Strong experience working alongside physicians and clinical teams on documentation quality.
  • An active coding credential such as CRC, CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA.
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, nursing, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working with EHRs and CDI, coding, or risk-adjustment platforms.
  • Strong judgment when navigating complex compliance, quality, and performance issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a CRC certification, with CDIP or CCDS also considered a plus.
  • Have built training programs, provider education, SOPs, or workflows from the ground up.
  • Know how to coach technical teams without micromanaging them.
  • Are comfortable using data and performance metrics to identify problems and drive improvement.
  • Can explain complex coding and documentation requirements clearly to coders, physicians, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Naturally take ownership when something isn't working and figure out how to fix it.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of Greenbrook's prospective and concurrent CDI review processes.
  • Set clear expectations and hold the team accountable to quality, productivity, and turnaround-time standards.
  • Monitor work queues and workflow daily, identifying bottlenecks before they become problems.
  • Lead team huddles, regular 1:1s, coaching conversations, and performance discussions.
  • Manage schedules, coverage, timecards, and time-off requests to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Serve as the go-to leader for day-to-day coding questions, challenges, and escalations.
  • Own the onboarding experience for new CDI specialists from day one through independent assignment.
  • Build clear training plans, onboarding resources, reference materials, and workflows that help new team members ramp quickly.
  • Audit and monitor new coders throughout their onboarding period and determine readiness for full assignment.
  • Coach team members on technical knowledge, quality, productivity, and professional growth.
  • Create an environment where people receive clear feedback, know what great performance looks like, and have the support to improve.
  • Track team performance across accuracy, quality, production, turnaround time, and other key CDI metrics.
  • Identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement before they impact broader performance.
  • Deliver timely coaching and manage sustained performance issues when necessary.
  • Partner with the CDI Oversight Coordinator on audits, scoring methodology, follow-up reviews, and quality improvement.
  • Help build a consistent, fair, and data-driven approach to performance evaluation.
  • Identify where workflows break down and lead practical solutions.
  • Build and improve SOPs, workflows, job aids, and documentation standards.
  • Help create coding best practices and internal guidance that makes the team's work more consistent and scalable.
  • Bring structure to complex processes and continuously look for ways to improve speed, quality, and efficiency.
  • Work closely with physician leadership and clinical teams to support accurate, complete documentation.
  • Partner with Medical Records, retrieval, billing, claims, and other operational teams to remove friction across workflows.
  • Help translate complex coding and documentation requirements into clear, practical guidance.
  • Ensure the team's work aligns with ICD-10-CM guidelines, CMS-HCC risk-adjustment requirements, payer policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Help maintain documentation and coding practices that are accurate, complete, compliant, and defensible.
  • Support audit readiness, including RADV and other regulatory or payer reviews, through accurate, complete, and defensible documentation and coding practices.
