About The Position

The Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) team within GM’s Software and Services organization is responsible for developing, deploying, and releasing control software and calibrations that truly control the whole vehicle. This includes internal combustion engines, hybridized drive units & transmissions, high voltage batteries, and body, chassis & thermal management. As the Manager for the Cabin Thermal Software team in the Body Controls domain, you will lead a team of developers & engineers to design, develop, test, and deliver embedded software for Cabin comfort. You will collaborate cross-functionally with product, systems, program, and supplier teams to ensure successful and timely release of quality products for GM's revenue-generating truck portfolio and pave the way for their all-electric future. Your responsibilities include delivering functional and diagnostic software according to program timelines, coordinating with suppliers and GM Inhouse software teams, and managing multiple release lines across various programs and electrical architectures for Cabin Thermal products. You will also handle defects, product improvements, and provide plant and program support, leading cross-functional teams to resolve issues effectively. You will work with peers in Cabin Thermal (Calibration Teams, System Testing, Requirements Engineering across regions) to develop Cabin Thermal Software that enhances customer experience. In this people leader role, you will develop and lead strategic action plans to support business goals for an inclusive future as GM reinvents itself from an auto manufacturer to a tech company. The heart of this position is to embrace agile practices that will enable you to grow your team's capability for the future with a focus on speed, quality, and safety. You will use agile concepts to empower your team to innovate and grow technology, leading them in adapting new technologies to the product, understanding new and upcoming features in Occupant comfort (Cabin Thermal, in collaboration with various adjacent products like Seats, Lighting etc.), and driving cross-functional teams to meet product goals. You will be involved in requirements/design/source code reviews to lead the team effectively. GM is investing in virtualization of calibrations and CICD (Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment) to be a leader in automotive software, and you are expected to lead the team in this direction. Your technical leadership will be at the strategic direction level with responsibilities for execution & drive innovation. You will help develop and lead strategic action plans to support business goals for an inclusive future with industry-leading Body controls performance that elevate customer comfort.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering to include Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Mathematics.
  • Minimum 10+ years of engineering experience related to embedded control system & Software development experience.
  • Demonstrated technical background in Body controls (Cabin Comfort, Seats, Lights, Vehicle Access etc.)
  • Highly skilled & hands on experience in embedded controls software development & related tool set – (e.g. AUTOSAR software, developing & debugging physics-based C code, Jira, GIT Ecosystem, etc.)
  • Demonstrated results in successful project execution
  • Excellent multi-functional communication and leadership skills - able to get multiple teams moving in the same direction
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity while driving timely decision making

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Engineering and/or Master of Business Administration
  • Master of Science in Electrical, Computer, Electronics, Mechatronics, Systems or Software Engineering with emphasis in Controls or Robotics
  • Prior work experience in Body Controls domain
  • Experience in embedded controls development software and tool sets – (e.g. C/C++, Python, Jira, Git ecosystem, MatLab/Simulink, ETAS INCA)
  • Leadership experience developing or utilizing industry standards & software architecture (e.g. AUTOSAR) and agile methodologies (e.g. CICD)
  • Leadership experience in safety compliance of embedded systems
  • Leadership of teams of engineers responsible for developing or testing embedded control systems or related hardware in an agile environment
  • Demonstrated ability to: achieve results through effective teamwork, lead numerous projects with different focal areas to successful completion, and manage and measure work through metrics, data, and results
  • Experience in doing SFMEA, DFMEA and other systems engineering approach for product quality.
