About The Position

The Business Manager is responsible for the effective administration of the parish's financial, human resource, operational, and facility functions. Working closely with the Pastor, parish staff, Finance Council, and volunteers, the Business Manager ensures that the parish's temporal resources are managed with integrity, accountability, and in accordance with diocesan policies, civil regulations, and Catholic values.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in business management, finance, accounting, nonprofit administration, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, and accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and parishioners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a church, nonprofit, school, or faith-based organization is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage the annual parish operating budget in collaboration with the Pastor and Finance Council.
  • Monitor revenues and expenditures and provide regular financial reports.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Ensure accurate financial recordkeeping and internal controls.
  • Coordinate annual audits or financial reviews.
  • Manage parish banking relationships and cash flow.
  • Oversee offertory counting procedures and financial security.
  • Ensure compliance with diocesan financial policies and government regulations.
  • Coordinate recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and personnel records for parish employees.
  • Administer employee benefits, payroll, and timekeeping.
  • Assist supervisors with performance evaluations and personnel matters.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and diocesan policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of parish buildings and grounds.
  • Coordinate contracts with vendors and service providers.
  • Monitor capital improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and risk management standards.
  • Maintain insurance documentation and coordinate claims when necessary.
  • Assist with stewardship initiatives and parish fundraising efforts.
  • Support parish ministries by providing administrative and financial guidance.
  • Promote responsible stewardship of parish resources.
  • Foster a welcoming and collaborative work environment consistent with Catholic teachings.
