About The Position

The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. The department is committed to maintaining integrity and recognizing the company's successes, ensuring that BNSF remains a leader in the railway industry. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry. This is a full-time located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. This position will have budgeting, forecasting and planning responsibility for various BNSF staff departments. Successful candidate must have a strong focus on Business Partnering and creating value for each area served. Budget areas will include operating expense, capital and balance sheet account management.

Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/ Accounting or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a finance-related field, as applicable
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and make decisions independently
  • Ability to adjust readily to multiple demands and shifting priorities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to challenge/influence business partners with expense leverage concepts
  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a finance-related field, as applicable
  • At least one year of work experience in budgets and/or forecasting, or comparable industry experience
  • CPA, MBA, or other professional certification
  • Advanced Excel skills and/or SQL
  • Good understanding of BNSF’s responsibility income statement and forecast process
  • Working knowledge of financial statements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate/participate in weekly and monthly budget reviews and forecasts
  • Identify and explain budget trends and recommend ways to reduce cost or improve processes
  • Development of processes, models, and reports to accurately monitor and forecast expenses for assigned departments
  • Assist in the development of performance measures, strategic initiatives and annual plans
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, analysis support, reporting, and other projects relative to informational needs of business partners utilizing various tools
