About The Position

Mays Cancer Center is advancing cancer care through clinical trials and research. Our specialties include cancer drug development, meaning you may be among the first in the country to benefit from new therapies. This means our care teams can offer eligible patients medications not yet approved for the general public. We operate clinical trials for all aspects of cancer care, including prevention, detection and supportive therapies. Our priority is serving the cancer care needs of our South Texas community. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in basic science or related field is required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques.
  • Experience documenting and following procedures/protocols.
  • Knowledge of procedures, instruments in use, and quality control measures within the laboratory.
  • Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and conducting regular assessments to record the lab equipment's performance.
  • Ability to operate in a fast paced environment with established time constraints.
  • Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Responsibilities

  • Manages laboratory services, including workflow, administrative procedures, operations and strategic planning in order to maintain an efficient laboratory environment.
  • Ensures appropriate lab compliance with accrediting agency regulations.
  • Develops and implements quality control procedures and ensures documentation are in compliance and up to date with ISO guidelines.
  • Establishes goals, and schedules for the laboratory.
  • Oversees laboratory safety policies, implements training, and monitors department for compliance.
  • Coordinates laboratory administration; manages and authorizes all purchasing expenditures for supplies and equipment; ensures that all required equipment is maintained and properly functioning.
  • Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handles complaints and grievances and administers discipline when necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
