About The Position

As the Manager of Battery Energy Storage Operations, you'll lead the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of WVPA's battery assets while overseeing maintenance programs, operational technology, vendor partnerships, and a team of skilled Battery Energy Storage Technicians. You'll serve as the organization's subject matter expert on battery operations, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to maximize asset performance and deliver long-term value. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of energy storage by supporting new battery deployments, emerging technologies, grid modernization initiatives, and strategic energy projects across the region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Operations Management, Energy Systems, Industrial Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in utility operations, electric generation, battery storage, power systems, substation operations, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • Valid drivers license required

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with battery energy storage systems, power electronics, SCADA systems, substations, generation facilities, or utility assets preferred.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, maintenance programs, and safety initiatives preferred.
  • PMP, CMRP, NETA, OSHA, NFPA 70E, NABCEP Energy Storage, or equivalent certifications are a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operation and maintenance of utility-scale battery energy storage assets
  • Drive reliability, safety, and performance across the battery portfolio
  • Oversee maintenance programs, SCADA systems, and operational technology
  • Manage contractors, vendors, and key service partnerships
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing technical team
  • Support new battery projects, commissioning activities, and future energy storage expansion
  • Contribute to WVPA's long-term strategy for grid reliability and energy innovation
