About The Position

Brex is seeking a Manager, Banking Operations to lead a team responsible for managing money movement through the platform. This role involves coaching analysts, improving documentation standards, and building operating rhythms for a critical monitoring function. The Operations team at Brex is central to the company's mission, handling credit, fraud, money movement, and payments, and operates at the intersection of product, design, engineering, and customer success. The Manager will oversee payment monitoring across various rails, guide the team through exceptions and escalations, and shape people, process, and technology to ensure accuracy, resilience, and scalability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in US banking operations, payments operations, compliance operations, or a related function within a bank, fintech, or other regulated financial services environment.
  • 2+ years of people management experience, with a track record of coaching employees, raising performance, and building strong, accountable teams.
  • Working knowledge of high-risk money movement workflows and payment rails such as wires, ACH, checks, SWIFT, or similar transaction monitoring and exception management environments.
  • Practical fluency with AI tools such as Claude, Hex, Granola, and Glean, with a strong point of view on where AI can improve team effectiveness, decision quality, and operational scale in a control-heavy environment.
  • Strong judgment, including the ability to assess risk, make sound escalation decisions, and maintain clear, audit-ready documentation.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with teams such as Compliance, Legal, Product, Engineering, Treasury, Finance, or external banking partners to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn operational complexity into concise guidance, actionable feedback, and leadership-ready updates.
  • A builder mindset with strong operational discipline and the ability to improve workflows, strengthen procedures, and use data or automation to scale quality and efficiency.

  • Exposure to working with external banking partners, vendors, or fintech infrastructure providers to improve operational workflows and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Banking Operations analysts by setting priorities, coaching performance, and building a high-accountability culture grounded in sound judgment, accuracy, and strong documentation standards.
  • Oversee payment monitoring across Fedwire, SWIFT, ACH, checks, and stablecoins, ensuring alerts, exceptions, and escalations are reviewed on time and resolved with clear, risk-based decisions.
  • Build scalable operating frameworks for onboarding, quality assurance, escalation management, and coverage planning that improve consistency as the team and business grow.
  • Advance Brex’s AI-native goals by identifying high-impact use cases, driving thoughtful AI adoption across the team, and partnering on tools and workflows that improve speed, quality, and control.
  • Partner closely with Compliance, Legal, Product, Engineering, and external banking partners to strengthen controls, resolve issues quickly, and support operational readiness for new workflows and product changes.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying root causes, refining procedures, and advancing automation that increases throughput without compromising control quality.
  • Translate frontline insights into clear reporting and actionable recommendations for leadership, surfacing trends, risks, and process gaps that matter to the broader Banking Operations strategy.

Benefits

  • The expected salary range for this role is USD $105,600 - $132,000.
  • Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
