About The Position

Works under the direction of Jail Finance Manager and serves as a purchasing official for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office to procure supplies and services. Pay Grade: 53 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience in a lead/supervisory capacity, of which three (3) years’ experience must be in inventory; AND
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management or a closely related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION; TRAINING; AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the movement of goods and products in and out of the warehouse.
  • Monitors and enhances inventory accuracy and efficiency metrics.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to boost efficiency and reduce costs, including analyzing data to anticipate future inventory needs.
  • Trains and oversees inventory control staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensures effective communication at all levels of management regarding their inventory levels in an efficient, timely, and professional manner.
  • Supervises the Main Dock/Stockroom, Main Jail Warehouse, and the Laundry Operations staff.
  • Oversees the Main Dock/Stockroom, Main Jail, and Jail East inventories.
  • Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies of Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Maintains the inventory software program (WASP) for the Main Dock/Stockroom, Main Jail, and Jail East warehouses.
  • Prepares requisitions to replenish low inventory items as needed.
  • Takes periodic physical inventory at all locations to check against the inventory software.
  • Trains staff on inventory system and procedures.
  • Oversees inventory controls to ensure proper security.
  • Ensures records archived from various Sheriff’s Office departments are properly stored and disposed of in compliance with record retention policies and procedures.
  • Administers storage, maintenance and tracking of receiving dock automatic and manual equipment; ensures that the working standards of equipment and safety guidelines for equipment use are met; and directs maintenance routines to ensure proper operational readiness of equipment.
  • Directs staff in maintenance of an acceptable and professional standard of cleanliness; ensures that minimum standards are in effect daily by visual inspection.
  • Monitors traffic flow of non-essential personnel in receiving dock area and adjacent parking lots to ensure security of the area and prevent unauthorized access to department areas; maintains awareness and safeguard against possible irregularities in traffic flow or items being received which are in violation of departmental policies.
  • Performs subordinates’ annual performance evaluation fairly, impartially, and provides counsel to ensure understanding of the evaluation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
