About The Position

Directs the administration of the car movements necessary to meet the company’s maintenance schedules. This includes coordinating car flows into the company’s repair shop operations, ensuring adequate flow for consistent production with no down-time and controlling the arrival of the company’s railcars to independent repair facilities, rack fabricators, railroad rack repair/modification facilities and field maintenance operations. May manage a team of region-based field supervisors and/or assistant managers. Responsible for the data integrity and accuracy of railcars moving to and from facilities. Oversees the company’s paid storage network to maximize use of leased capacity, minimize switching costs while promoting efficient flows for those cars being held for future modification and maintenance programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required and five to ten years of related experience and/or training.
  • Proven experience supervising seasoned technical professionals. Able to understand and direct others, appropriately monitoring successful completion of fluctuating workloads and promoting good cross-team coordination.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and similar computer programming is required. Knowledge or ability to learn other software available to develop statistics and documentation that drive decision making and strategy is required. Ability to organize and prepare numerically -based information into actionable reports and presentations.
  • General knowledge of railroad operations, freight car rolling stock physical and mechanical characteristics, and AAR interchange rules, or the aptitude and interest to learn.
  • Comfortable in a fast paced environment with various priorities. Strong ability to prioritize based on department goals and current strategy. Strong follow-through skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Interpersonal skills and professional demeanor required to represent a positive image of TTX and/or the department to outside parties, and within the Company.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, coupled with the ability to respectfully defend the interests of TTX.

Responsibilities

  • Based on knowledge and experience, may lead, manage, develop and support a team of regional field supervisors (remote positions) and additional personnel (fixed day positions) responsible for supporting car movements that support maintenance and scrap plans.
  • Sets priorities for direct reports. Provides guidance and expertise on AAR Rules applicable to team, systems function and integrations, and tactical and strategic plans related to team activities.
  • Acts as the liaison for team of direct reports, within corporate, at the railroads, and at the AAR by maintaining relationships needed to promote success toward departmental goals.
  • Become proficient in duties of field supervisors and any additional direct reports.
  • Provide coverage for team members during vacations or business.
  • Assist with DDCT as needed.
  • Review current methodology of all team activity and offer suggestions for improvement on a continuous basis.
  • Provide at least quarterly feedback to direct reports regarding performance and productivity.
  • Prepares and oversees the tactical railcar movement plans necessary to meet the Company’s plans for maintenance and inspection programs, while minimizing lost revenue car days and maximizing fleet utilization.
  • Responsible for tactical Paid Storage activities including car arrivals, invoice processing, weekly and monthly reporting, monitoring operations, supervising car flows and ensuring that only necessary cars are stored. Submits paid storage accruals to ensure accurate accounting for the paid storage budget. Coordinate with Program Fulfillment team and maintenance planning for capacity forecasting. Assists with strategic activity including capacity forecasting, site review and selection, contract negotiation and compliance. Coordinates field audits as required.
  • Measures and monitors compliance rate on cars directed to Facilities. Identify areas for improvement where possible. Identify root cause issues when average compliance rates decline, and notify and involve proper resources required to repair issues.
  • Manages car hire status on cars directed to and from Facilities. Ensures cars retain accurate NR codes/facility events to properly affect car hire.
  • May represent TTX on relevant AAR committees to protect TTX interests in industry discussions that impact the Asset Management group, such as DDCT.
  • Responsible for proper and timely Entity Master Data Management to ensure IRF, Division, Scrap, Paid Storage and Asset Sale facilities are updated to include all pertinent information for TTX internal systems to process cars correctly and stakeholders have access to information as needed. Internal systems include TTXMDM, UFD, Business Directory, etc.
  • As needed, works with MRO, FMO and Operational Excellence teams on developing MRO opportunities, and conducting field audits and inspections as needed, by utilizing the skillsets of the Regional Supervisor team.
  • Assists the Sr. Manager and Director of Asset Management in accomplishing the goals of the department by completing special projects as assigned, and may act for the Sr. Manager and Director in his or her absence.
