About The Position

SkilledTradesBC is seeking a Manager, Apprenticeship Advisors for a permanent full-time role in the Lower Mainland. This position is accountable for managing the Lower Mainland Apprenticeship Advisor Team and works closely with the Director, Customer Experience to foster positive relationships with employers, sponsors, training providers, apprentices, and other stakeholders. The Manager will develop and support strategic initiatives to engage these groups on the benefits and value of apprenticeship programs. Collaboration with the Manager, Apprenticeship Advisors, Regional, ensures consistent direction across teams. The role also involves working with other SkilledTradesBC departments on cross-departmental projects, addressing field team issues, and providing feedback for successful execution.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education, and/or trades certification within demonstrated success in working within the apprenticeship system, or a related field is required; equivalent education and experience will be considered.
  • 5 to 7 years of directly related leadership experience that demonstrates the ability to deliver results while maintaining constructive relationships and success working with multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence experienced, independent professionals through coaching, relationship-building and consensus rather than directive supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement and emotional intelligence to navigate sensitive conversations, manage conflict, and maintain trust with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to empower team members who are subject-matter experts in their region while ensuring accountability to shared goals, service standards and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success working directly with apprentices and employers/sponsors to increase continuation and completion.
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills to build trust, foster respectful team culture, and support effective collaboration across functions.
  • Strong ability to engage internal and external stakeholders to build alignment and resolve issues.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort working across multiple systems.
  • Ability to enter, maintain, and retrieve data accurately; manage records; and follow established information-management and privacy practices.
  • Openness to learn and adapt as systems evolve and improve; technically savvy and able to adjust quickly to new tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in leveraging technology to effectively work remotely with clients and employees is preferred.
  • Experience managing others remotely would be a strong asset.
  • A proven track record in project management is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the BC apprenticeship system is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support strategic initiatives to engage employers, apprentices, and key partners.
  • Provide strategic management to the Apprenticeship Advisor team by setting departmental priorities and developing initiatives, processes, and plans to achieve SkilledTradesBC’s objectives.
  • Analyze the operational environment and make strategic changes to support the apprenticeship pathway, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with other SkilledTradesBC departments to support organizational initiatives and projects, troubleshoot issues, and represent perspectives from the field.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodology to all processes, procedures, and systems for managing and delivering the Apprenticeship Advisors function.
  • Plan and manage the overall direction of SkilledTradesBC’s Apprenticeship Advisors and Team Leads.
  • Manage all aspects of the Lower Mainland Apprenticeship Advisor Team, including recruitment, development, performance management, goal setting, and team priorities, under the direction of the Director, Customer Experience.
  • Assist with and monitor remote location set up and operations.
  • Support Apprenticeship Advisors on complex cases and escalations with the Team Lead.
  • Serve as a point of contact for apprentices transitioning through the apprenticeship pathway, providing regional advice and resources to help secure a sponsor.
  • Maintain and build relationships with key organizations, employer groups, local chambers, and other key stakeholders to promote and market apprenticeship opportunities, working with Apprenticeship Advisors, External Relations, Program Standards, and other relevant departments.
  • Build capacity and knowledge with regional service providers to address barriers to apprenticeship continuation and completion.
  • Refine ongoing data collection and apply continuous improvement methodology to processes, procedures, and systems for the Apprenticeship Advisors role.
