About The Position

Drives strategic vision into site-level action, by overseeing daily learning operations, research workflows, and implementation across Practice-Based Researchers (PBRs) to ensure consistency between ma kai and ma uka. Collaborates closely with researchers, integrates findings into instructional practice, and advances the execution of external partnerships and aina-based initiatives. Aligns aina innovation with haumana outcomes, kumu practice, and the campus research agenda.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Hawaiian Studies, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in educational program delivery, site operations, or research coordination.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising or leading staff in applied learning or research settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in aina-based learning environments and community engagement.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with scientific research methods and data analysis.
  • Ability to translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in teaching, coaching, and supporting professional learning for peers.
  • Background in developing children and adult education and instructional programs.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams through change in culture, climate, or practice.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of the geographic and cultural landscape of Hawaiʻi.
  • Familiarity with land planning, sustainability, and natural resource management.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with olelo Hawaii.
  • Experience in community-based economic development initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Christian values.
  • Knowledge related to loko i'a, school-based gardens, food systems, farm-to-table initiatives, renewable energy, water conservation, waste reduction, environmental education, and related policy.
  • Experience developing and implementing long-term sustainability strategies that integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) in aina-based learning.

Responsibilities

  • Site Operations and Coordination
  • Oversee daily operations of designated learning sites, ensuring safety, resource availability, and logistical coordination.
  • Maintain consistency in operational practices across ma kai and ma uka sites.
  • Manage site calendars, events, and vendor coordination for repairs and improvements.
  • Serve as the designee for site emergencies and ensure protocols are followed.
  • Research Coordination and Integration
  • Coordinate research priorities and workflows across Practice-Based Researchers.
  • Support the implementation of scientific monitoring and data collection aligned with campus research goals.
  • Facilitate the integration of research findings into instructional design and delivery.
  • Assist in the development of tools and resources to support Oiwi Edge learning and teaching.
  • People and Program Development
  • Support development opportunities for Practice-Based Researchers in instructional design, research methodology, and aina-based practices.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and implement activities such as seminars, teacher trainings, public events, and programs related to school sites, gardens, aina-based learning, sustainability, and Halau Kupukupu initiatives.
  • Encourage and facilitate school garden, aina-based learning, and sustainability efforts initiated by faculty, staff, and students.
  • Coordinate the design and resourcing of innovative programs that expand or improve existing initiatives.
  • Respond to specific requests from K-12 teachers by conducting lesson-specific research and distilling information for classroom use.
  • Instructional Implementation
  • Collaborate with kumu and researchers to implement high-quality, aina-based learning experiences.
  • Ensure alignment of instructional practices with campus strategic goals and Oiwi Edge expectations.
  • Contribute to the facilitation of professional learning and instructional application on site or through Ka'aikuahiwi.
  • Partnership Implementation
  • Coordinate on-site implementation of external partnerships under the guidance of the Director.
  • Liaise with community partners, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful collaboration.
  • Monitor and report on partnership outcomes and alignment with site and campus goals.
