About The Position

The Accounting Manager is responsible for adding value to BGO staff and clients through direct supervision of accounting staff to ensure accurate and timely financial information to better manage properties and budgets, make timely decisions, provide meaningful financial reports, and monitor and control cash flows. The Manager will utilize leadership and decision-making qualities in the continuous improvement of processes, proper training, development, and mentoring of property accounting staff to transfer knowledge, create a positive work environment and develop solid skill sets. This is a hybrid position located in Toronto, Ontario.

Requirements

  • Qualified CPA designation or relevant work experience in residential/mixed-use property accounting
  • Minimum 5 years residential/mixed use property accounting experience required, including supervision of staff
  • Computer Skills: intermediate to advance skills in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs
  • Relationship Skills: ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written; ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships; ability to develop leadership in others; team player
  • Organizational/Multi-Tasking: ability to allocate one’s time effectively, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines; ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities; ability to prioritize workload; ability to work at a detailed level; willingness to learn in a dynamic environment that includes new ideas and change
  • Decision Making Skills: ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems; ability to take decisive action; ability to resolve conflict
  • A criminal verification check is required for employment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise 3–4 property accounting staff, overseeing daily operations and ensuring properties are managed efficiently
  • Oversee monthly and annual accounting cycles, including month-end reporting, budgets, cash flow forecasts, audits, property taxes, and operating cost recoveries
  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with deadlines, GAAP, and client policies and requirements
  • Plan and monitor workloads and deadlines, balancing staff capacity with client and business needs
  • Review accounting work and resolve issues, providing decision-making, conflict resolution, and technical guidance when needed
  • Train, mentor, and develop staff, including performance management, file reviews, constructive feedback, and continuous skills development
  • Support the Controller and accounting team with planning, staffing, problem-solving, team engagement, and special projects
  • Manage property transitions and special accounting activities, including new property setups, property sales/turnovers, reconciliations, distributions, and bank closures
  • Drive process improvements and maintain strong communication with property/site staff, leasing teams, management, employees, and clients to improve quality, efficiency, and service
