Above all, what sets us apart are our five Core Values, which guide everything we do. GENERAL PURPOSE: The Accounting Manager oversees and provides support to the Accounting and AP departments. Oversees calculating, posting and verification of financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records. Maintains the integrity of accounting records by ensuring that staff complies with accounting policies and procedures. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with both in-office work at our El Segundo, CA location and remote work.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 4 years supporting mortgage lending, private lending, real estate finance, or loan accounting operations.
  • Direct lending industry accounting experience required.
  • Hands-on loan accounting experience, including an understanding of loan-level transactions and their impact on the general ledger.
  • ERP/accounting system experience in a complex, high-volume accounting environment.
  • Strong experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with multiple legal entities, intercompany transactions, and consolidations.
  • 3+ years of people management experience leading accounting professionals.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing large datasets.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

Responsibilities

  • Meets accounting operational standards by contributing financial information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality and customer service standards; resolves problems and identifies system improvements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Oversees accounting operations, which include financial accounting, general ledger and bank reconciliations.
  • Reviews and understands transaction level accounting, while keeping big picture of the operational information in mind.
  • Ensures that financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Protects the company’s value by keeping information confidential and maintaining financial security by adhering to internal controls.
  • Records journal entries and reviews staff journal entries, reviewing for accuracy and compliance with policy and principles.
  • Maintain entity level trial balances and intercompany schedules
  • Assists external auditors and provides required statements and information for the annual audit.
  • Verifies employee benefit invoices by verifying coverage and costs.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; identifies and recommends updates to accounting processes and procedures.
  • Understand and ensure processes are in compliance with internal controls and business processes, implement improvements as needed.
  • May serve as project lead with supervision.
  • Understands how to gain collaboration from other departments to compile information properly.
  • Ability to present information for review.
  • Take initiative and leadership position in day-to-day assignments and on special projects.
  • Communicate effectively internally and externally.
  • Accomplishes staffing objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; communicates job expectations.
  • Performs all supervisory functions to effectively and efficiently manage the personnel assigned.
  • This position may involve handling confidential and sensitive information as part of its daily responsibilities. Employees are expected to exercise discretion and protect all sensitive data, including but not limited to personal information, loan details, business and financial records, and proprietary materials.
