About The Position

Leads and manages a department responsible for the proper accounting, recording, and reporting of the company’s capital assets. Works closely with operations and work order management to manage the CWIP balance and maximize the amount of rate base that can be included in regulatory filings. Assists the Property Accounting Director in evaluating potential changes to the capitalization policy. Evaluates systematic opportunities for process improvement and automation within the Fixed Asset Accounting System. Supports the regulatory process by providing key asset transaction information in to facilitate rate recovery. Works closely with key stakeholders and management to drive continuous improvement. A partner with other finance and accounting functions to ensure that accounting records are accurate and supported by appropriate internal controls. Ensures efficient work processes are in place, supports cross-training and the knowledge transfer of best practices between the Property Accounting Departments in Houston and Evansville.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree with a focus in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Requires a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the utility industry

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP and PowerPlan is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manages and develops staff through use of best practices and the Company’s people management processes.
  • Prioritizes Property Accounting workload, including a reduction strategy for the current backlog of projects in need of analysis and the processing of asset entries.
  • Coordinates the preparation of responsive documents in support of rate case activities, including third party audits.
  • Provide work order aging metrics to operations and to leadership to optimize the construction life cycle
  • Drive continuous improvement mindset and develop innovative processes, procedures and/or tools to support analysis of business performance.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in Engineering, Financial Planning, and Work Order Management.
  • Seek and identify capitalization opportunities for new technologies and processes.
  • Identify any areas in need of policy and practice convergence among business units and determine the most appropriate company-wide strategy.
