About The Position

Provides oversight and direction to the firm's general ledger and financial accounting and reporting close function. Supervises general ledger accounting personnel and uses advanced accounting skills in the preparation and review of account reconciliations, consolidations, firm-wide financial statements, and various financial reports, including international and domestic accounting. Designs and supports the control environment surrounding the close, ensures the general ledger accurately reflects the firm's financial position, and ensures all financial reporting deadlines are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Accounting is required
  • Minimum of seven to ten years' experience with general ledger, analysis and preparation of financial statements
  • Minimum of one to two years of international accounting experience working for multi-national companies, with an understanding of international accounting requirements.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot table experience.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of Elite Enterprise/Elite 3E and familiarity with SQL, database design, and law firm time and billing systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of general ledger accounting staff; trains team members on new or enhanced operating policies and procedures, and provides workflow assistance, mentoring, and quality assurance.
  • Operates as the subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve general ledger and financial reporting issues.
  • Provides oversight into the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including the close calendar and cutoff procedures, and ascertains that all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Reviews and approves account reconciliations, journal entries, and account analyses prepared by the team members responsible for general ledger activities; reviews and reconciles general ledger entries to ensure accurate firm financial statements.
  • Oversees the timely preparation and review of firm-wide financial statements and related management reports.
  • Provides oversight into the preparation, analysis, and reconciliation of international and domestic accounting functions, including currency translation and consolidation as necessary.
  • Coordinates and prepares for audits as it relates to the financial reporting function.
  • Provides oversight into the conversion from cash basis to accrual basis accounting as necessary.
  • Provides oversight related to decisions about the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, in coordination with the Financial Systems team.
  • Analyzes general ledger activity and reviews comparative and variance analyses; assists with timely preparation of accounting budgets, variances, and account analyses.
  • Designs and provides oversight into the controls surrounding general ledger and financial close activities; ensures the integrity of financial data and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • In support of the Controller's coordination of the annual external audit, prepares audit-ready schedules and supporting workpapers for the financial statement audit and serves as an operational contact for auditor fieldwork requests.
  • Researches and advises general ledger staff concerning the accounting treatment of transactions and applies current and proposed changes in accounting standards; escalates matters with firm-level or partner impact to the Controller.
  • Recommends modifications to accounting policies and procedures, and studies and standardizes procedures to improve the efficiency of the department.
  • Designs and prepares various financial statements and special reports for senior leadership utilizing owned technologies.
  • Protects the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Works on other special projects as necessary.
  • Keeps supervisor abreast of current issues and potential problems as they develop; seeks advice as needed.
