About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Manager Software Engineering 2 (S02/M2) in Colorado Springs, CO, to provide functional and technical leadership for software engineers supporting the C2BMC National Team program. This is a full-time, on-site position in a classified, secure environment. The role involves functional management of a team of engineers, focusing on staff based in Colorado Springs, CO, including performance management, staffing, mentoring, and retention. Additionally, the position requires technical leadership in planning, execution, and oversight of program efforts, with daily engagement in a classified environment and collaboration across multiple companies. This position is limited to current Northrop Grumman employees actively supporting the C2BMC National Team program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
  • Requires an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
  • Current Northrop Grumman employee supporting the C2BMC National Team program at the time of application.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in software development (e.g., technical lead, team lead, scrum master, acting manager, or equivalent) with responsibility for mentoring, technical direction, or performance input for other engineers.
  • Ability and willingness to work full-time on-site at 9970 Federal Drive, Colorado Springs, CO, within a classified, secure facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior or current experience as a formally designated manager or section lead (e.g., M1/M2, acting section manager, or equivalent) with direct people-management responsibilities (performance reviews, promotion/compensation input, staffing decisions).
  • C2BMC National Team program experience in software development, integration, or test roles, preferably in a multi-contractor or National Team environment.
  • Hands-on experience in Agile/Scrum software development environments.
  • Experience working in or supporting DevSecOps / CI/CD environments using tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting ballistic missile defense (BMD), command and control, or other Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs.
  • Proven experience leading or coaching teams in Agile/DevSecOps environments, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and continuous integration/continuous delivery practices.
  • Experience developing software in classified environments, including understanding of associated security, configuration management, and tool constraints.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of building trust with engineers, program management, and customer or partner representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and manage risk (staffing, skills, and technical execution) and to implement mitigations that support program cost, schedule, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct functional leadership for a team of engineers assigned to the C2BMC National Team program, with emphasis on Colorado Springs-based staff.
  • Perform managerial responsibilities including goal setting, quarterly check-ins, mid-year and year-end performance reviews, merit and bonus input, promotion recommendations, rewards and recognition, and resolution of personnel issues.
  • Manage timecard approvals, labor charging guidance, schedule adherence, and basic compliance for assigned staff.
  • Support recruiting and hiring for C2BMC National Team positions, including requisition input, resume review, technical interviews, and selection recommendations.
  • Foster a positive culture focused on ethical conduct, technical excellence, teamwork, and retention of high-performing engineers.
  • Coordinate with the Program Engineering Lead (PEL), NG program management, and C2BMC National Team counterparts to understand program objectives and align NG staffing and skills.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to assigned engineers, including participation in design reviews, code reviews, defect triage, and technical decision-making.
  • Support Agile/Scrum teams and DevSecOps / CI/CD practices (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins or similar).
  • Help ensure work products meet quality, performance, security, and configuration management expectations within the classified environment.
  • Support planning and execution of program increments, sprints, and releases in collaboration with IP leads, scrum masters, and technical leads.
  • Identify and communicate staffing, skills, and execution risks and opportunities that may affect cost, schedule, or performance; contribute to mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Coordinate and communicate between multiple cross-functional teams (software, systems, test, integration, cyber, etc.) within C2BMC National Team partners and the NG Program Engineering Lead.
  • Represent Northrop Grumman’s Engineering organization in internal and external meetings, reviews, and working groups.
  • Provide regular, concise status on staffing health, performance trends, and key issues to engineering and program leadership.
  • Perform additional tasks consistent with the role of a software engineering section manager and C2BMC National Team technical leader.
