About The Position

The Management Intern, GIS Specialist will support spatial analysis, data visualization, and community-informed research efforts related to groundwater and water resilience initiatives in Arizona. This role will contribute to the development of maps, dashboards, and data products that inform decision-making, elevate community perspectives, and support cross-community coordination. The position will work closely with program staff, researchers, and external partners to translate complex spatial data into accessible, actionable insights. This is a temporary position with an anticipated end date of August 2, 2026. GIS Workshop Support: Conduct dataset inventory and benchmarking; develop workshop materials and visuals; support workplan development; assist in drafting frameworks and functional requirements for CPWPG GIS dashboards focused on regional hydrological and groundwater data StoryMap Development: Design and develop an interactive StoryMap for Rural Groundwater Resilience Workshops, integrating maps, narrative content, and data visualizations Rural Groundwater Resilience Exchange (RGRx): Support network launch through data management, development of a network directory, platform migration, and creation of workflows to support ongoing maintenance and coordination Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Geographic Information Science, Geography, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder).
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical programming (R and/or Python).
  • Experience developing dashboards and data visualizations (e.g., Tableau, ArcGIS Dashboards).
  • Strong data management and data cleaning skills across multiple data sources.
  • Experience working with community-based, nonprofit, or government data projects.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
  • Interest in water resources, groundwater systems, or community resilience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct spatial analysis and data management using GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) to support water-related projects.
  • Develop interactive dashboards, web maps, StoryMaps, and data visualizations for diverse audiences.
  • Clean, manage, and analyze datasets using tools such as R, Python, and Excel.
  • Support integration of spatial and non-spatial datasets, including hydrological, groundwater, and demographic data.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to translate data needs into analytical products.
  • Contribute to reports, presentations, and communication materials that synthesize findings.
  • Assist in community engagement efforts by developing data products that reflect local context and priorities.
