About The Position

RTW Investments is seeking a Management Company Controller to join its Firm Services team. This senior accounting role has broad responsibility for the firm’s management company financial operations, including accounts payable, expense management, internal controls, month-end close, financial reporting, and oversight of the annual audit. The ideal candidate is a seasoned accounting professional who can independently lead the function, build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and outsourced providers, and bring structure and reliability to RTW’s management company operations. This person will serve as RTW’s primary internal contact for the outsourced accounting service provider, ensuring accurate financial reporting, adherence to firm processes and controls as well as the smooth execution of payment processing and reimbursements. At its core, the role is about ownership: the person in this seat is expected to lead the function with accountability and to approach every RTW colleague with a strong client-service mindset. This role reports to the Managing Director of Finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience; management company, fund, or financial services background strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ownership of management company accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Prior experience managing or overseeing an outsourced accounting or accounts payable service provider strongly preferred.
  • Deep expertise in accounts payable processes, expense management, and internal controls; experience designing or improving these functions, not just executing within them.
  • Hands-on Concur experience required; prior system administration, policy configuration, or implementation experience strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional precision and organizational rigor; proven ability to operate as a functional owner in a lean, high-expectation environment with minimal oversight.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; able to build trust across all levels of the firm.
  • Approach every interaction with a client-service mindset.
  • Proactively solve problems and follow through with a high standard of responsiveness and accuracy.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, low-ego high ownership team culture.
  • Must be able to work from our New York City office 4–5 days per week.

  • CPA designation, or meaningful progress toward licensure, is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly financial close for the management company, including account reconciliations, management company financial statements, and timely delivery to senior leadership.
  • Establish, document, and enforce internal controls and financial policies; ensure the control environment keeps pace with firm growth and evolving regulatory expectations.
  • Represent RTW in key vendor and counterparty relationships with professionalism and authority.
  • Oversight of annual audits for RTW’s global management company entities
  • Partner directly with RTW’s internal tax team to address requests and support ongoing needs.
  • Longer term goal to assist with annual budgeting, ongoing variance analysis, and management reporting for the management company; surface insights, identify and proactively resolve issues.
  • Own and manage the full accounts payable cycle, invoice processing, payment approvals, and vendor management, setting standards for quality and timeliness in partnership with the outsourced accounting service provider.
  • Oversee employee expense reimbursements and the American Express corporate card; serve as the firm’s point of escalation for expense issues, with authority to resolve and initiate policy revisions.
  • Lead policy enforcement across accounts payable and expense submissions; proactively identify control gaps and drive improvements to firm-wide practices; escalating issues to firm Leadership Team, as necessary.
  • Oversee the outsourced accounting team’s execution of management company financial reporting, accounts payable, employees expense reimbursement and other ad hoc accounting processes. As the internal owner of this function, set performance expectations, conduct regular reviews, and hold the service provider accountable to RTW’s standards for quality and timeliness.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the outsourced relationship by structuring the engagement, renegotiating scope as the firm grows, and building a governance framework that enables the function to operate smoothly without escalation.
