About The Position

The Management Accountant is responsible for providing independent analytical oversight of the Corporation’s financial results to ensure accuracy, completeness, and overall reasonableness prior to external and internal reporting. This role performs in-depth financial and operational analyses to identify anomalies, trends, and potential risks. The position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the General Ledger and supporting the monthly and annual financial reporting processes. The Management Accountant will design and execute data-driven analyses, develop meaningful insights, and proactively challenge results to ensure they align with operational realities and expectations. Working closely with the Financial Accountant and broader financial reporting team, this role performs and reviews accounting entries and analyses, provides accounting support, and contributes to process improvements to enhance the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial information. The Management Accountant will also make recommendations to the Controller to strengthen internal processes, controls, and analytical frameworks. This position requires the application of strong technical accounting knowledge combined with advanced analytical capabilities, representing a growing expertise in accounting standards, financial reporting, and business performance analysis.

Requirements

  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) with three years of relevant accounting experience OR a Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance with six years of relevant accounting experience is required. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Must have advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and strong knowledge working within and analysing accounting standards.
  • Must have high level of organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate work in a team environment, supported by strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Successful candidate must provide satisfactory criminal records check prior to commening work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an electrical utility would be an asset.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics GP is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain accurate financial information in accordance with Corporate Accounting Policies, Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), and Rate Regulated Accounting (RRA) requirements.
  • Lead the account reconciliation process, including oversight of reconciliations, review of supporting documentation, investigation of discrepancies, and maintenance of General Ledger integrity.
  • Perform advanced financial, operational, cost, and variance analyses to identify trends, assess reasonableness of results, investigate anomalies, and provide recommendations to management.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting processes, including preparation for external audits, financial statement support, and implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance financial reporting tools, dashboards, and automated processes to improve data quality, visibility, and decision-making across the organization.
  • Provide accounting guidance and financial support to operational departments, ensuring consistent application of accounting policies, coding structures, allocations, and reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including ERP system enhancements, process optimization, reporting modernization, and cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Operations, Information Technology, and external auditors.
