About The Position

Swoon is an online-only furniture brand founded in 2012 with a mission to create distinctive designs. They are seeking a Management Accountant to own the numbers and reinvent how they are produced. The company has transitioned from a startup to a profitable business, and while monthly reporting is solid, it relies on manual effort. The ideal candidate will maintain board reporting integrity while transforming the process through automation and AI, aiming for faster month-end close, self-reconciling reconciliations, and live dashboards. This role offers a chance to redesign the finance engine from the ground up, with the continuity of management accounts and board packs being non-negotiable. Requirements

  • Qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA.
  • Retail experience, including confidence with stock reconciliations, stock provisions, and inventory controls.
  • Experience as a full-circle management accountant (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Experience owning the year-end audit process.
  • Experience preparing month-end accounts in Xero.
  • Advanced Excel/Sheets skills and comfort with reconciling and handling large volumes of data.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for automation, AI, and building better processes, with a track record of improving workflows.
  • Ambition to make a mark and progress as the role and business grow.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Strong communication skills to explain finance concepts to non-finance colleagues.
  • Able to travel to London at least once per month.
  • Management experience, or readiness to step up into management.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience building dashboards or finance automations (e.g., BI tools, scripting, or AI-assisted workflows).
  • Exposure to retail collaborations, marketplaces, or multi-channel revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Produce monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) to a seven-day hard close.
  • Produce the board pack and monthly business review with clear commentary and insight for the leadership team.
  • Present performance to leadership and translate numbers into decisions.
  • Oversee the revenue recognition process, including deferred revenue and cost of sales, ensuring business controls for accounting accuracy.
  • Maintain cost and Opex tracking, accruals, and rolling forecast inputs.
  • Redesign month-end and reporting processes to be faster, leaner, and less manual, without compromising board continuity.
  • Create live, self-serve dashboards for real-time financial visibility.
  • Identify, plan, and implement automation and AI across reconciliations, invoicing, accruals, reporting, and routine finance tasks.
  • Lead automation planning and troubleshooting, and continuously seek processes to streamline, simplify, or retire.
  • Liaise with the warehouse to run monthly stock reconciliations, including stock-in-transit and provisions.
  • Strengthen financial controls and balance-sheet reconciliations across deferred revenue, debtors, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Oversee the coding of invoices by the accounts assistant.
  • Approve company-wide expenses.
  • Own the year-end process and full audit, managing all communication with the auditor.
  • Produce the quarterly VAT return and plastic packaging tax, liaising with HMRC.
  • Run PSA and P11D submissions and all payroll-related returns.
  • Run the bi-annual EMI share option process.
  • Act as the key contact for all HMRC-related matters.
  • Manage new employee payroll setup and oversee the monthly payroll run by the external provider, including pension submissions.
  • Supervise and develop the accounts assistant.
