About The Position

At Northbay Health, the Mammography Van Technologist performs all mammographic studies and special breast procedures. Produces mammographic images and organizes, completes the required paperwork and charges. Responsible for patient safety and wellbeing during examinations. Assists the Lead Technologist in completing weekly QC. Assists and instructs patients during examinations. Assists with clerical duties and mammography regulatory tasks. Reports on all equipment malfunctions. Cleans and inspects equipment prior to use. Works on mobile mammography van in collaboration with the Imaging Support Specialist to provide mammography services at various community and outreach locations. Responsible for ensuring all mobile mammography quality control and quality assurance activities are completed and documented in accordance with MQSA requirements, ACR accreditation standards, organizational policies, and manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the mobile mammography unit is maintained in a state of regulatory readiness and assists with inspections, audits, and compliance activities related to mobile mammography operations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved mammography course.
  • Current California Radiographic and Mammographic Technologist licensure.
  • One year of experience in mammography.
  • Basic clerical and computer experience required.
  • Demonstrate performance by adhering to established policies and procedures and exhibiting the defined characteristics associated with attendance and punctuality.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Employee must be able to assist moving patients.
  • Capable of carrying a weight of thirty pounds a distance of fifty feet.

Responsibilities

  • Performs mammography examinations in accordance with established protocols.
  • Inspects and cleans equipment prior to use.
  • Maintains exam rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Reports equipment failures and malfunctions to the Lead Technologist, Supervisor, or Director.
  • Reports all patient complaints and discrepancies to the Supervisor.
  • Processes images and completes and organizes required documentation.
  • Performs required quality control procedures as appropriate.
  • Adjusts mammography equipment controls as needed prior to the start of scheduled examinations.
  • Produces high-quality mammographic images for all patients, including wheelchair users and patients with breast implants.
  • Confers with the radiologist throughout the shift regarding image review, positioning, and techniques to optimize patient examinations.
  • Identifies abnormal breast tissue and obtains repeat exposures or additional views as needed to ensure diagnostic quality and reduce patient anxiety.
  • Verifies the location of prior examinations and contacts previous facilities to obtain mammograms for comparison.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
