The Mammography Technologist performs a variety of Mammographic procedures with the knowledge and ability to apply a prescribed amount of radiation for the purpose of obtaining diagnostic-quality Mammograms on all ages and gender of patients. Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
  • Registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Mammography.
  • Valid Washington State certification in Radiology.
  • American Heart Association BLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years’ experience in a general radiology service preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs mammographic procedures per established protocols. May assist radiologist on biopsy procedures.
  • Measures, calculates and selects proper technical factors in order to arrive at optimal image exposure.
  • Interprets data gathered in assessment and provides care appropriate to age related needs.
  • Obtains patient medical history and clinical data for correlation with the imaging study, and enters such data into the Radiology Information System (MRM).
  • Positions and handle patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience and safety to obtain the desired results for diagnostic purposes.
  • Utilizes supportive and immobilization equipment and devices to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Utilize radiation protective shielding for maximum protection of self and patient.
  • Critiques images to ensure quality radiographic examinations consistent with standardized procedures.
  • May assist physician in administering contrast for Ductography procedures.
  • Administers first aid as required in emergencies.
  • Upon completion of patient imaging procedure, the technologist reviews the images and associated data and assure all images are available for Radiologist dictation.
  • Understands and follows all safety policies and reports any unsafe conditions or practices to the lead technologist/manager.
  • Utilizes QA memos for improved service to patients.
  • Performs Mammography Quality Control procedures in the absence of the QC tech.
  • Assumes responsibility of self and others for proper and efficient operation of all equipment used. Reports equipment problems, malfunctions, and/or need for repairs to lead technologist. Maintains cleanliness of equipment for patient safety and/or function.
  • Participates in community breast health events and demonstrates loyalty and support of Memorial education of services in the community.
  • Rotates working hours and various shifts as assigned. During periods of light workload, accepts responsibility for working on tasks that better or enhance the department. Checks with lead technologist and/or manager for additional assignments.
  • Assists in training and instruction of new department personnel and radiology technology students.
  • Performs duties within assigned area of specialty (QC, biopsy, other).
