About The Position

Scotland Memorial Hospital is seeking a full-time Mammography Technologist to join their team. This position is responsible for performing mammography examinations, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining accurate records. The technologist will review patient history, evaluate contraindications, communicate effectively with patients, and utilize proper positioning and equipment. They will also apply independent judgment during examinations, acquire additional imaging as needed, and maintain patient privacy. The role includes assisting with the daily operations of the imaging department, educating students and residents, and transporting patients. The technologist must demonstrate competency across various age groups, from adolescence to geriatrics.

Requirements

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification
  • BLS certified
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Mammogram within one year of hire.
  • Diagnostic Equipment experience
  • Ama Accredited Nuclear Medicine Program or Equivalent specialized training
  • Crt/Hospital Computer System experience
  • Excellent Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal
  • Diplomacy, Tact, And A Positive Approach To Problem Solving
  • Organizational Skills
  • Ability to Foster A Teamwork Environment
  • Ability to Communicate With Patients, Customers, Other Departments, And Staff In An Articulate Manner.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and assumes responsibility for the safety of the patient during their examination.
  • Review patient medical history and support clinical information.
  • Ensure that the examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of “medical necessity.”
  • Evaluate any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient’s inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures.
  • Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.
  • Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the technologist or patient.
  • Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with professional and facility protocols.
  • Apply independent judgment during the examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.
  • Refer specific diagnostic, treatment or prognosis questions to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional, as authorized by written facility policies and procedures.
  • Acquire additional imaging as necessary to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
  • Identify and document any limitations to the examination.
  • Review examination images and synthesize examination information.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA) and facility policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to accepted professional and ethical standards.
  • Provide patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for radiology.
  • Assist with the daily operation of the imaging department.
  • Assist with the education and training of radiology/ mammography students and physician residents.
  • Transport patients as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients.
