The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing radiographic mammograms by the application of ionizing radiation to produce quality radiographs as would be required under a variety of conditions. This role requires one month of on-the-job training in mammography. The technologist will produce quality mammograms, perform requests for special views, and prepare files for the radiologist. They will also obtain outside previous or comparison exams, gather complete patient histories, and maintain a log of all patients. A good knowledge of breast anatomy is essential. The role involves assisting in the main department when time allows, adapting to flexible working hours, and recalling patients who require additional imaging. Ensuring images are correctly transferred from PACS to the Sectra workstation is crucial. The technologist will perform Quality Assurance testing on equipment, operate a dry laser printer, and schedule diagnostic breast exams. Familiarity with mammography protocols for all radiologists is necessary. Responsibilities include proof-reading mammogram reports in RIS for errors and ensuring corrections are made, generating BIRADS letters for patients, and burning CDs from Sectra for biopsies. Professional behavior with patients and employees, maintaining a positive attitude, and contributing to department goals are expected. The role also includes performing other assigned job duties, complying with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy, adhering to OSHA and Springfield Clinic training requirements, and providing excellent customer service in line with the SC Way customer service philosophy.
