About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for performing diagnostic mammography and radiographic exams in accordance with radiological procedures, Gonzaba Medical Group organization, and legal standards. The role requires maintaining clinical competencies, ensuring high levels of customer service, and exercising tact and courtesy with patients, visitors, providers, and co-workers. Responsibilities include performing clerical functions, assisting with other modalities, and maintaining strict confidentiality. The technologist operates X-ray equipment, develops and evaluates images, educates women on preventive breast health, prepares and maintains records, cleans and adjusts equipment, oversees the Quality Assurance Mammography program, and serves as a resource for other mammography technicians. They perform mammograms, breast magnification/compression, and other special exams, select appropriate equipment, determine patient positioning and shielding, set mammography machines, execute exams, and process images. Aseptic environments are maintained when required, and the technologist monitors their own radiographs for technical quality. Patient history is obtained, x-ray jackets are prepared, and mammography and x-ray rooms are kept clean and neat. Requirements

  • Minimum high school education or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal radiologic technology training program in an A.M.A. approved school.
  • Certified in Diagnostic Mammography.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • Current Department of Health license.
  • Meet TDH mammography qualifications.
  • CPR and AED certified.
  • Must keep all licenses and certifications current and in good standing.
  • Knowledge of word-processing software, spreadsheet software; Internet software and database software.
  • Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance.
  • Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • RIS/PAC program knowledge is preferred.
  • A minimum of one-year experience preferred in radiology.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic mammography and radiographic exams in accordance with radiological procedures.
  • Operates X-ray equipment and performs various mammography related procedures.
  • Develops and evaluates the images for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Explains procedures and educates women about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
  • Prepares and maintains records and files.
  • Cleans and adjusts equipment as needed.
  • Oversees Quality Assurance Mammography program.
  • Serves as a resource for other mammography technicians.
  • Performs mammograms, breast magnification/compression and other special exams.
  • Selects appropriate equipment and determines the most suitable anatomical positioning and shielding of patients for requested exams.
  • Sets mammography machines, executes the proper exam, and processes image.
  • Performs and maintains aseptic (sterile) environment when required for radiology exams in the radiology department.
  • Monitors (quality control) their own radiographs for technical quality by setting proper radiological techniques for each view/exam.
  • Obtains patient history for mammography exams and prepares x-ray jackets.
  • Maintains mammography and x-ray rooms in a clean and neat manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical competencies according to Gonzaba Medical Group policy.
  • Ensures customer service is always maintained at the highest level.
  • Exercises tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, visitors, providers, and co-workers.
  • Adheres to customer service expectations including in-person and virtual (via telephone, or telehealth applications) communication.
  • Participates in educational programs as needed.
  • Performs clerical functions as required including answering the telephone, filing, copying, and faxing, etc.
  • Assists with other modalities when available.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Performs any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.
