About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Mammography Supervisor. The Technologist's primary job function is to operate radiographic mammography equipment to obtain radiographs and to assist in the detection of breast disease. In doing so, positions patients and adjusts X-ray equipment to correct setting for each examination. Operates DEXA equipment and positions patients for Bone Mineral Density Test. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Associates in Radiology required
  • Ohio(R) required
  • ARRT(R) required
  • ARRT(M) required
  • BLS within 90 day introductory required
  • 40 contact hours of documented training specific to mammography under the supervision of a qualified instructor required.
  • 8 hours of documented 3D training.
  • Training in breast anatomy and physiology, positioning, imaging of breast implants required.
  • The performance of a minimum of 25 examinations under the direct supervision of a qualified individual requried.
  • Eight hours of training in each modality to be used.
  • 15 CEU's specific to mammography every 3 years.
  • Must perform a minimum of 200 in a 24 month period.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of physician order, diagnosis, and clinical information to discern appropriate procedures/views/treatments.
  • Assessment of the patient's needs and ability to follow instructions.
  • Provides or navigates patient where they may receive breast health educational information.
  • Position patient properly and obtain appropriate mammographic and Dexa views.
  • Correlates clinical history with completed mammograms and Dexa scans.
  • Presents appropriate images to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Responsible for correctly documented patient history in Meditech, in the Mammography Reporting System (Ikonopedia) and RIS.
  • Perform QC tests as indicated by ACR/FDA guidelines and corrects problems recognized.
  • Responsible for requesting service for equipment.
  • Behaves in a professional manner (includes not abusing telephone/internet privileges, breaks, socializing, and being consistently punctual, etc.).
  • Assists in training of new or less experienced employees and/or students.
  • Sets up for and obtains necessary views for invasive procedures.
  • Maintains clean work area and equipment as well as par level stocking.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
  • Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s.
