About The Position

This per diem Mammography Technologist position involves performing mammographic and stereotactic procedures for screening and diagnosing breast abnormalities. The role requires ensuring equipment compliance with MSQA standards, preparing exam rooms, reviewing patient history and previous reports, and providing patient education. The technologist will also consult with radiologists, refer patients for further evaluation when necessary, and ensure patient safety and comfort during procedures. Adherence to policies from organizations like ARRT, MSQA, NAPBC, and DPH is crucial. The position also involves coordinating work for productivity, participating in professional development, maintaining patient confidentiality, and providing excellent service.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • Valid Massachusetts State License for Radiography and Mammography.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assure that bone density, mammography, and stereotactic equipment are operable, assuring MSQA compliance by completing all necessary quality assurance checks and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Prepare exam rooms with necessary mammographic and stereotactic equipment/devices and order appropriate patient supplies.
  • Receive and review requisitions and radiologists' last dictated reports to ensure previous images are available for the radiologist.
  • Consult with radiologist, as needed, for any clarification of ordered mammography exams based upon last dictated reports and patient history.
  • Provide patients with an explanation of the radiologic examination to be performed and assure patient education has been provided, including the differences between screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms, process, and results.
  • Assure that the required patient history questionnaire is completed and clarify any patient history to assure accuracy.
  • Refer patients to a nurse practitioner if the patient identifies any new breast symptoms or if the patient has not had a physical breast exam in the last year.
  • Assume care for the needs of the patients during exams and procedures to ensure safety and comfort for the patient.
  • Perform mammographic/stereotactic procedures, safely operating equipment for screening and diagnosing of breast abnormalities.
  • Follow established policies/procedures set by department leaders and other organizations, including the ARRT, MSQA, NAPBC, and DPH.
  • Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures to ensure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures.
  • Participate in activities that promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the Massachusetts State Licensing for mammography.
  • Maintain an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, and staff to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
