About The Position

This is an open-pooled position. Applicants' education/experience will be considered and the position may be filled at a lower or higher level, as appropriate. The Mammography Technologist I position works independently to complete screening, diagnostic mammographic, breast intervention & bone density exams. This includes common and special mammographic exams of moderate complexity. This position provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special breast procedures. This mammography Technologist I position delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to breast exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. This position is a member of the direct patient care team. The Mammography Technologist II position is an experienced technologist who completes a variety of routine and diagnostic, breast intervention, bone density, and breast ultrasound procedures. This includes common and special mammographic exams of high difficulty, as well as breast ultrasound exams and procedures. This position is a member of the direct patient care team and is fully competent in all aspects of breast exams. The Mammography Technologist II position serves as a mentor & trainer to the Mammography Technologist I and students. This position works independently by exercising sound judgment and executing above average clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures The Mammography Technologist II position provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special ultrasound procedures. This position delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to breast imaging and ultrasound exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

Requirements

Associates of Applied Science
Graduate of an accredited Radiography Program
8 hours initial digital training
8 hours initial tomosynthesis training
American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT-R)
American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT-M)
Texas Medical Board certification (MRT)
American Heart Association (BLS)
Competency to perform bone densitometry, breast ultrasound and breast tomographic and ultrasound guided biopsy procedures
American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (RDMS-BR) or American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT-BS)

Assists physicians during procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.
Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patients and family members at an age-appropriate level.
Performs screening, diagnostic, breast intervention and bone densitometry procedures to include common & special exams of moderate complexity.
Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable)
Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.
Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures.
Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
Participates in WASTE walks and supports department LEAN projects.
Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends.
Performs imaging equipment quality control (QC) at required intervals to ensure all imaging equipment is in safe working order prior to use.
Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e. medications) or potential outcomes and obtains assistance, as appropriate.
Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered.
Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies.
Ensures their personal timecard is accurate and approves it in a timely manner to prevent retro amendments.
Participates in department projects or shared governance activities.
Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a technologist.
Guides and mentors Mammography Technologist I and students to help build confidence in skills, knowledge and abilities.
Utilizes active communication and reports pertinent patient care information in a comprehensive manner.
Performs breast & bone densitometry screening, breast diagnostic and breast interventional exam to include those of high complexity.
In addition, performs diagnostic breast ultrasound and ultrasound guided breast intervention to include exams of high complexity.
Assists with implementation and education of department based, safety initiatives and standards of practice.
Leads departmental special projects, initiatives and/or shared governance activities.
Fosters a positive and constructive teaching environment.
