About The Position

This position is responsible for performing mammographic and stereotactic procedures, ensuring equipment compliance with MSQA standards, and providing excellent patient care. The technologist will prepare exam rooms, review patient history, consult with radiologists, and educate patients on procedures. Adherence to departmental policies and professional standards from organizations like ARRT, MSQA, NAPBC, and DPH is crucial. The role also involves maintaining patient confidentiality, promoting professional growth through continuing education, and ensuring timely completion of work.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • Valid Massachusetts State License for Radiography and Mammography.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assure bone density, mammography, and stereotactic equipment are operable and MSQA compliant by completing quality assurance checks and maintaining documentation.
  • Prepare exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Review requisitions and radiologists' reports to ensure previous images are available.
  • Consult with radiologists for clarification of exams based on patient history and reports.
  • Educate patients on the radiologic examination, including the differences between screening and diagnostic mammograms.
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of patient history questionnaires.
  • Refer patients to a nurse practitioner if new breast symptoms are identified or if a physical breast exam has not occurred in the last year.
  • Provide for patient safety and comfort during exams and procedures.
  • Perform mammographic/stereotactic procedures safely for screening and diagnosis of breast abnormalities.
  • Follow established policies and procedures from department leaders and organizations such as ARRT, MSQA, NAPBC, and DPH.
  • Coordinate work for maximum productivity and efficiency, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Participate in activities promoting professional growth and development, meeting continuing education requirements.
  • Maintain ethical relationships and ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
