About The Position

The Mammography Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Produces diagnostic quality images according to radiology practice standards under the supervision of the staff radiologists.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Radiography Certification (ARRT) - American Registry Of Radiologic Technologist within one year of start
  • Radiology Technician (ARRT) - Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board Of Examiners

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions.
  • Demonstrates skills and knowledge in use of all mammography equipment and performance of all mammography, needle localization and biopsy procedures.
  • Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS/RIS.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in evaluating.
  • Provides and performs training in accordance to the hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assesses and evaluates the trainee and provide feedback to the Radiology Manager.
  • Administers sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of the patient.
  • Communicates effectively with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination and communicates this information to the radiologist.
  • Maintains equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of the patients and employees.
  • Checks and inspects the suite, equipment and accessories daily for physical or mechanical hazards.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions, immediately reports dangerous conditions to the appropriate person.
  • Maintains work area in a clean orderly fashion.
  • Checks stock supply levels, maintains supplies at par level and displays an effort in supply maintenance and utilization.
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment.
  • Maintains supply of linen in the room.
  • Maintains quality control checks in accordance with policy requirements.
  • Participates in department QC and PI programs, follows up on all deficiencies.
  • Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures, practices aseptic techniques and always washes hands before and after each patient contact.
  • Strictly adheres to the hospital policy on body substance isolation.
  • Always wears film badge white on duty, follows departmental procedures for badge results.
  • Demonstrates magnetic safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines, to ensure the safety of the patients and staff.
  • Recognizes emergent situations and responds appropriately.
  • Observes and monitors patient's vital signs.
  • Monitors medical equipment attached to the patient during the radiographic procedure.
  • Performs routine clerical duties as assigned.
