About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at University of Chicago Medicine as a Mammography Technologist II in the Radiology Department. Here, under the direction of a Radiologist, you will produce breast radiographs to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. This position requires intimate patient contact, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with initiative and accuracy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to imaging, patient education, data collection and maintaining regulatory compliance. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalency required
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Breast Ultrasound
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate good decision making and judgment skills
  • Must be able to function in fast paced environment
  • Maintain required mammography continuing education as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act
  • Maintain required bone densitometry continuing education as mandated by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry
  • CPR Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) or the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Bone Densitometry OR 5 years of relevant experience and proficient in Automated Breast Ultrasound

Responsibilities

  • Reviews physician’s order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors based upon breast tissue density, patient’s age, numerical compression scale, and technical equipment characteristics.
  • Performs a variety of clinical breast procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination; evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation.
  • Performs breast ultrasounds, as directed by Breast Radiologist
  • Assist physician in set-up and performance of breast interventional procedures.
  • Recognizes report and document malfunctions of technical equipment.
  • Assists in the training of new staff and student technologists.
  • Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies.
  • Adheres to all infection control regulations.
  • Performs bone densitometry or automated breast ultrasound exams, where applicable.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Lead Technologist and Department Manager
