As a member of the health-care provider team, the Mammography Tech works directly with the patient and physician, performing a variety of specialized tasks involved in the performance of Mammography and bone density exams. The Technologist will also be responsible for any preparations or consents needed for Ultrasound or MRI patients. The Technologist must know the principles of x-ray and radiation safety, the operation of many types of equipment, the technique of obtaining specific radiographic exposures, image processing, and the professional handling and care of patients. The Technologist performs these procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. They use independent judgment and initiative in appropriately applying the prescribed ionization radiation for Radiologic diagnosis.
