The Mammographer is responsible for competently performing basic and intermediate screening and diagnostic mammography examinations. This role involves reviewing patient medical records to gather essential clinical information, including patient history, lab results, and physician orders, and obtaining breast health history from each patient. The Mammographer performs scans, identifies breast anatomy, distinguishes normal from abnormal findings, and adapts imaging techniques to enhance diagnostic quality. They evaluate mammographic images for proper positioning, technique, artifacts, and compression, repeating images as necessary. The position also requires comparing requisitions to physician orders to ensure exam accuracy, post-processing images as directed, and accurately labeling all images with patient information. The Mammographer provides Radiologists with pertinent patient history, maintains records in accordance with regulatory agencies, and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, documenting billing codes for accurate patient charges. Additionally, the role involves various patient positioning and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique, and demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served.
