About The Position

Summary Mammographer Technician Job Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the radiologists and Lead Mammography Technologist, performs routine and special mammography procedures in accordance with hospital/department policies and procedures; assists with quality maintenance and improvement; meets the requirements of the Radiologic Technologist (staff) as outlined in the Position Description and Performance Appraisal. Operates all radiographic and ancillary equipment associated with the performance of routine and special mammography procedures, including pre-surgical lesion localization; is responsible for radiation safety; and has the ability to recognize and report equipment malfunctions. Utilizes proper radiographic and positioning techniques to maximize radiographic quality and minimize repeat films. Must be able to move patients on stretchers and wheelchairs. Must appropriately label radiographs and record pertinent clinical data. For special procedures, exam room is set up with all necessary equipment and supplies; consent/history forms are complete; patient is prepared emotionally as well as physically prior to performance of study and monitored throughout the procedure; sterile/aseptic techniques are followed. Scheduling routine and special procedures, providing preparation instructions and answering questions, accessing, entering and retrieving information form MIS is imperative. Receives and records verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners for orders that are specific to the services provided by their department. Administers medications in a timely manner, safely and in accordance with policy and procedure. Mammographer Technician Job Requirements: 3 months – 1 year Associate degree: Radiologic Technology or graduate of an accredited certification program in Radiologic Technology Minimum of six (6) months general diagnostic experience must be trained and/or approved by Lead Mammography Technologist prior to performing studies independently. Organization and communication skills; ability to read, write, hear, speak and comprehend the English language. Licensure to be eligible to practice as a Licensed Radiographer in the State of Wisconsin. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T) registered in diagnostic radiology (RTR). Effective January 1, 1996, all technologists performing mammography must be A.R.R.T certified in mammography (RTR) (M) OR be registry eligible and must take and pass the certification examination within 12 months of completion of mammography training. Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire. Salary Range: Up to $43.00/hr (based on experience) Night and evening shift differential

Responsibilities

  • Label radiographs and record pertinent clinical data
  • Set up exam room with all necessary equipment and supplies
  • Ensure consent/history forms are complete
  • Prepare patient emotionally as well as physically prior to performance of study and monitored throughout the procedure
  • Follow sterile/aseptic techniques
  • Scheduling routine and special procedures, providing preparation instructions and answering questions
  • Accessing, entering and retrieving information form MIS
  • Receives and records verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners
  • Administers medications in a timely manner, safely and in accordance with policy and procedure
