We have recently taken over a long standing service in Elgin where we support 17 individuals. The service comprises of 12 bedsits and a 3-bedroomed bungalow where 2 people reside. These individuals require various levels of support with learning disabilities, mental health, and physical disabilities. The focus is on achieving individualized goals, working together to overcome barriers, and ensuring people are living their very best lives. They need to be supported by people who understand their individual needs, promote their independence, and make a positive difference to their lives. They each have their own interests and enjoy activities such as karaoke, baking, BBQs, garden parties, discos, day trips, and holidays. They have all experienced challenges with anxieties, past traumas, and behaviors, and require support workers who are confident in supporting them in these areas to build trust and help them feel safe and secure. There are several support workers on shift each day, but this role involves supporting one gentleman in his own home for the majority of the hours, with the remaining hours spent in the main building with other individuals. Shift times range from 11 am-7 pm, 1 pm-6 pm, 12 pm-4 pm, 8 am-3 pm, and 3 pm-9 pm. Staff need to be flexible and able to work all these times for a 25-hour post. Sometimes, individuals require support from a male or female person. For this particular role, a male colleague is required, which is a genuine occupational requirement as defined by the Equality Act 2010.
